These current stressors markedly strain the coping skills that we were taught or saw demonstrated in our childhood. Isolation and loneliness are leading stressors. As social creatures, to now be treated as "The Other" and avoided as though we were not there, often increases resentment,anxiety,depression and relationship dysfunction. To borrow from William James, we may experience it as "fiendish punishment". Effective communication can reduce the pain of isolation and powerlessness.
