My approach is one of restraint, and my default is to base the treatment primarily on skills and lifestyle changes that evolve in psychotherapy. I love to see pharmacology prove to be an only temporary part of the recovery process.

Therapy can be an effective tool in restoring the soul, which has a direct impact on the well-being of our mind, will, and emotional state. Therapy can also allow us to clearly map out a spiritual path and help us maintain an active relationship with God.

I am a firm believer in individualized medicine. Therefore, I usually take time to get to know the person and their life first and then evaluate the medical information in the context of that individual's experiences. I believe that this approach makes for an effective diagnosis and treatment process.

I am board certified in both adult and child/adolescent psychiatry. I practiced and was board certified in Internal Medicine prior to training in psychiatry. My practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of children, adolescents and adults who deal with problems including all types of anxiety and mood disorders, ADHD and other behavior or emotional problems. I see patients with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders. These and other mental health problems affect the quality of life and healthy development of individuals.

I am a board-certified psychiatric mental-health nurse practitioner with experience providing the highest, quality medication management to diverse populations. Licensed in NC and NY. I have experience treating a wide range of conditions including Bipolar disorder, ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, personality disorders, & eating disorders. Dr. Swaminathan Thangaraj is board certified in both adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. He received his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, then completed general psychiatry residency at Drexel College of Medicine, followed by child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Before joining the outpatient psychiatry team at CareMind Health/Mindoula Clinical Services, Dr. Thangaraj worked as a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Sheppard-Pratt Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and McLean Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
