I am a psychiatrist who practices psychodynamic psychotherapy. My approach is psychoanalytic and relational. I work with clients to create a space to explore thoughts, feelings, desires, motivations, and experiences with dignity and curiosity. Taking time to explore ones inner world can be challenging, rewarding, surprising, and fun. This work can provide a path to a better understanding of one’s relationship to one’s self, to others, and to the world and can be helpful for difficulties related to anxiety, motivation, identity, self-esteem, life experiences, relationships, separation, attachment, and transitions.

As a board-certified PMHNP, further certified in perinatal mental health, I am dedicated to delivering compassionate, evidence-based mental healthcare that validates and enhances quality of life. Dr. Hussam Alsarraf completed his residency training at Duke University and specializes in treating mood disorders, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADHD, schizophrenia, and stress-related physical complaints. Along with offering conventional approaches to mental health maladies, Dr. Alsarraf provides insight-oriented therapy during every visit to foster understanding of yourself and give you the power to make positive changes in your life.

Given training in both Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, I have expertise in the intimate links between the mind and the body. My medical training and experience are enhanced by post-graduate study of modern psychoanalytic technique. This unique combination of skills allows me to treat patients with mood (Depression and Bipolar), trauma, and psychotic disorders. I am well suited to offer both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.
