Dr. David V. Alvarez is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Illinois who has been practicing since 2009. Dr. Alvarez has experience working with numerous populations across various levels of psychiatric care and settings (e. g. , inpatient, outpatient, PHP, home health, telehealth). He has experience and knowledge from working with a broad range of patients. Dr. Alvarez loves the work and believes it is a gift to be able to work with the patients that he does. He works with compassion, empathy, and humor.

I take time to get to know my patients and their concerns. Within the scope of general adult and child and adolescent psychiatry I offer evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy, family sessions and consultations, as well as school consultations and evaluations. I have a special interest in eating disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, and ADHD. My practice is open to other general psychiatric needs as well. I pride myself on getting to know my patients and their needs. I also routinely work with families to understand and cope with their loved one's illness. I use evidence based medicine and the most up to date practices.

My expertise is in treating mood, trauma, anxiety, and attention-related disorders. I take an integrative approach in considering the brain-body connection to treat mental illness, while identifying physical, emotional, and cognitive factors that impact treatment. My background is at the interface of medicine and psychiatry and I support a collaborative, multi-modal approach to helping patients achieve functional improvement and recovery. I am currently full and not taking on new clients. I specialize in mood, anxiety and trauma disorders. I work with clients who struggle with the ways they behold themselves and intimate others in their lives. In my practice, I use a psychoanalytic approach, and I strive to listen deeply without judgement. My aim is to help you notice the frustrating, painful and repetitive patterns in your experiences so that you might feel more capable of making different choices and living a fuller, richer life. Medications may or may not be part of our treatment plan.

As a Northwestern University-trained psychiatrist having extensive training in holistic therapies, I offer an integrative approach to treatment. After a comprehensive assessment, an individualized treatment plan is formulated to resolve a wide variety of mental health challenges.
