You wonder if you’re overreacting. You know that mental health struggles are real, but you’re not sure if what you’re feeling is normal or needs treatment. At the same time, it feels like you’re never doing enough. Exhaustion gets the best of you and then the self-critical thoughts get louder. You deserve a space that is just for you, to find deep healing from anxiety and stress. All are welcome to be seen and heard including those from our BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. Many of my patients are struggling with anxiety, experiencing chronic illness or grief, or want to reduce medications while exploring other options for healing.

You’re looking for a psychiatrist who understands the ketogenic diet for mental health, the impact of hormones on depression, how nutrition impacts anxiety, and the importance of gut health on the brain and nervous system. You follow doctors like Chris Palmer, James Greenblatt, Georgia Ede, and Mark Hyman online, but haven’t been able to find a psychiatric practitioner who understands their approach, let alone has advanced training in functional and integrative medicine. Maybe you’ve seen a handful of psychiatrists but you're still struggling. It feels like you’ve tried everything and you're not sure what to do next.

On faculty at Harvard / Mass General, I'm a double-boarded child, adolescent, & adult psychiatrist who offers telemedicine-based evaluation and treatment of kids, adolescents, and adults. I take a comprehensive approach, considering all aspects of you or your child’s lifestyle in order to create an individualized treatment program that meets you where you are. I believe that for treatment to be successful, you or your child will need to be evaluated and treated within the broader context of who you are, considering genetics, family dynamics, social supports, romantic relationships, careers, hobbies, habits, and unique stressors.

Another late night trying to catch up. Setting boundaries is tough because you don’t want to let your team down, but the workload keeps piling up and your personal life is suffering. It’s hard to relax, your mind is on overdrive, and restful sleep feels like a thing of the past. Imposter syndrome is creeping in and you try to work even harder, but it’s taking a toll on your physical and mental health. Anxiety, fatigue, restlessness, and digestive problems are a daily occurrence. You know you’re not on your A game but you don’t know where to start. Medications might be helpful, but you want more than just a prescription for pills.

To hear a patient say, "I finally feel like myself again, thanks to you" shows that with the right doctor and treatment, people can start to feel better quickly. I established Beverly Hills Psychiatry to promote psychiatric wellness and healthy functioning in adults, adolescents, and children. By providing video appointments patients anywhere in California can be seen and treated. I strive to create an environment in which patients can feel comfortable discussing their symptoms, experiences and concerns. I place maximum value on really listening to my patients and establishing an honest and trusting doctor-patient alliance.

Trauma and PTSD Psychiatrists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
