Who you are is not up for debate. I place the intersections of identity at the forefront of my practice because identity frames who we are and how we experience the world. Those who experienced Childhood Sexual Abuse know it can negatively impact every area of your life. This type of trauma can lead to isolation, guilt, shame, sexual problems, depression, anxiety, relationship troubles and so much more. It is time to take back your life. I can help you break free from the hold your past abuse still has on you today. Together we can explore new interventions and tools, develop new skills and rewrite your narrative. You deserve this!

Previously, I worked part-time at an outpatient clinic for sexual assault and abuse survivors.
I work well with couples who are experiencing difficulties with communication, trust, violence, infidelity, divorce, and trauma. I am trained in EMDR and Focusing-Oriented therapy. In my work with individual clients, often the focus of therapy is helping with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and sexual orientation and identity. I also have experience working with individuals and couples dealing with infertility and fertility treatments.

All men are welcome: straight, cross-dressing, curious, bi, gay, trans. While the details of our stories are unique, the overarching issues are universal and transcend our differences. Studies show that survivors of childhood trauma experience higher levels of chronic pain. For many of us, we know in our bones that these are connected. To address both, the group will utilize 1) psychoeducation about complex trauma healing and its connections to chronic pain, trauma healing concepts, and pain and medical advocacy education 2) experiential exercises from somatic and parts-work therapies, resulting in enhanced skill set for attending to triggers, pain, and nervous system dysregulation, as well as 3) community-building and resource sharing amongst participants. The vibe of group is calm and relaxed. No one is required to share anything that they don't want to. Common themes addressed include, but are not limited to: flashbacks, feeling safe, sexuality, self-blame, others' reactions, coping skills, the criminal justice system, etc. I've been running groups centered on this topic for 15 years and have found it to be a very moving and powerful experience for clients. There is a special kind of connection and healing that comes from peer interactions in conjunction with therapist/client interaction. Schedule: Monday OR Wednesday evenings, 7:00-8:30.

You've just taken the first step towards advancing your own personal growth. It can be difficult to address the painful or uncomfortable matters in our lives, but it is the only way to propel ourselves forward; to make the future stronger than the past. While the past will always play a role in shaping our future, it doesn't define it. Through counseling, we will work together to identify and overcome whatever obstacles may be in your path. With a clear mind and an empowered spirit, you'll be on your way to living a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life.

Take back your inner and outer safety. Are you remembering incidents in your life that make you feel isolated, hypervigilant and unsafe? You may want the opportunity to share experiences with other survivors in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental atmosphere. Small individual groups for women will explore, learn and implement tools for boundary setting, reducing shame and guilt, and creating a map for safety, relatedness, hope and reconnection toward a sense of aliveness and vitality. An adult survivor recovery group, used in conjunction with individual psychotherapy is a meaningful and powerful resource in the healing process.

Clients come to me with concerns, including anxiety, depression, family conflict, and struggles with intimacy. They feel stuck, angry with those around them, or caught in destructive patterns of behavior, yet they cannot seem to understand why. The relationship we build during treatment is a powerful tool to address these patterns that you feel unable to escape. Psychotherapy provides you space to safely explore these issues and work towards changing the patterns. I help my clients develop an appreciation for their life and work. Together we will explore the uncomfortable feelings and behaviors that prevent inner fulfillment, pursuit of goals, and overall life satisfaction.

Few things are harder than struggling alone. You might be holding onto pain from your family, friends, or past relationships. Or it could feel like you're stuck inside a traumatic event that chains your life. It might feel like no one understands how deeply sad, intensely angry, or desperately helpless you feel. But you're not alone. Healing from trauma is not just a concept; it is an attainable reality. It would be an honor to be invited on your journey towards healing, reparation and building a life worth living. I believe the goal of therapy is not just to stop the suffering, but to create a sustained life of thriving and joy.

Although the energy of transition and healing is in the air for so many of us, undergoing the initial steps towards seeking support can be difficult. Thank you for leaning into this process and exploring some of the ways we may be able to work and move in partnership towards a space of spiritual, emotional, and mental wellness. During our initial sessions, we will focus on weaving together, the elements of your lived experience that inform your current thought process; the identities that inform how you move through the world; and which will ultimately support in outlining a set of intentions and goals for our time together.

Sexual Abuse Support Groups

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
