When we experience a death, there is a natural period of loss and mourning. If we have not been given the tools to actively mourn and process our grief, this period of loss can become a permanent state of existence. If you are six months or more removed from a death and feel that your grief has become a consuming and constant part of your emotional and psychological self, then this group may help. THIS IS NOT A TRADITIONAL SUPPORT GROUP. This will be a psychoeducational group to help you learn new skills and tools.

My areas of specialization are: depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and LGBTQIA/ gender identity issues.
Sometimes, life can feel hopeless or overwhelming. Sometimes, we find that the coping tools we have relied on are no longer working to manage the altered reality around us. Sometimes, we all need help, and reaching out is the first step. My approach to therapy is client-centered and eclectic, but I believe in focusing on individual strengths and finding solutions-focused methods to address individual problems. With experience living and working in diverse societies, I seek to understand your unique cultural perspectives and values. I use cognitive and behavioral approaches, but I am open to adjusting my techniques.

I am passionate about breaking the stigma of vulnerability and reframing it as a sign of strength. Therefore, I invite my clients to take a step closer to becoming more comfortable with vulnerability. I understand that, while the past has shaped all of us and helps to explain who each person is today, I believes that each person still has the power to choose how their past experiences can help them thrive in the present and the future, and I am committed to helping my clients do just that. I also help clients build a more secure relationship with themself in order to connect with others in a more purposeful manner.

Grief can come through a vast majority of life situations to which many individuals don't know where to begin unpacking the events that just may have occurred. It's not always the loss of a loved one, friend, pet, etc. It may be an unexpected job change, job loss, loss of a friendship, relocating from another town, city, or state. The point of is not to endure the process alone. We want to focus on the "Who", "What", "When", "Where", "Why", and not forget the "How" about life as to moving forward. Come join our community.

Every client's issue, needs, and goals will always be different depending on where they are in their journey of trauma and healing. I refuse to treat everyone the same within the scope of my practice. I find being authentic and unapologetic in my delivery tends to allow the client to revisit, readjust and release the things they have found to hold them stagnate in their healing. What I have also uncovered about a client is their "want" and "why" does not always coincide with each other. What they may want may not be why they want it. Realistically, the result is always to find what they lost some time ago.

My clinical psychology practice involves working with adults experiencing significant life transitions as well difficult emotional states. For many, depression and anxiety that stem from loss, grief and isolation, have been more difficult to manage because of the pandemic. Self-esteem and relationship difficulties have also been more troublesome during this time. I am particularly interested in helping people learn new ways to adapt to changing life circumstances, such as the consequences of the pandemic, adult children leaving home, managing chronic illness, deaths of significant others, and loss of what is familiar.

This is a therapy group for those who have lost a partner, son/daughter, or parent, those who are experiencing terminal illness, and those who are experiencing infertility. We meet once a week for 90 minutes. Group members work to put into words their own feelings, thoughts, and reactions as freely and honestly as possible. Group therapy differs from support and self-help groups in that group therapy is led by a professionally trained therapist, focuses on what’s happening during the session between group members, and provides opportunities for addressing underlying patterns, in addition to helping people cope.

Hello and welcome. Looking for therapy is often hard work. Trying to find a good therapist can feel overwhelming, hopeless, or exhausting. If you are reading this, you or someone close to you is probably hurting. I can help. I wonder what brought you here and what’s going on in your life. What’s coming up for you now as you sift through listings and look at pictures of therapists? Are you skimming them or going through them with a fine-toothed comb? What physical sensations are in your body? What thoughts and ideas are coming up for you? What emotions are you feeling?

Grief Support Groups

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
