How do we change? What makes change so difficult? These are vital questions when seeking help with overwhelming life difficulties. As a Harvard trained psychologist and psychoanalyst who both treats people seeking change and teaches other clinicians about such treatment, my focus is on helping my patients improve and deepen personal relationships, become more satisfied and productive in work, change lifelong ways of coping that just aren't working. Change occurs through exploration in a safe and private environment where you can feel understood and where you can creatively discover new ways of addressing old problems.

I work with patients in once weekly sessions and occasionally, on a more frequent basis, given my conviction that change requires a deep committment to doing something different every day. Many of your emotional dilemmas with others will emerge in therapy sessions so that we can address them 'in person.'

As a therapist, I am engaged and interactive, warm, with a good sense of humor. Psychoanalysis is not about a silent doctor scratching his chin behind a couch where a patient blathers on. It is a profound process of self-understanding, exploration and change.
