Whatever you are struggling with right now, I know how hard it can be to find someone to talk to. You may still be carrying emotional hurt and pain from past life experiences or finding it hard to cope with more recent life changes or events. Or perhaps you are feeling lost, confused and alone in your life and no longer experiencing true happiness or enjoyment in the things that you do. All of this may be leading to conflict and tension in your close relationships, having a negative impact on your self-confidence and sense of self-worth, and making you feel more irritable, anxious or depressed day to day.

Accepting that we're finding things difficult is often the hardest part. Throughout every stage of life we can experience times when things don’t feel right and we struggle with our relationships, or to make sense of our thoughts, feelings and world around us. This can lead to us feeling anxious, overwhelmed and struggling to communicate.

Seeking counselling can feel like a big step. Perhaps a confusing one. Let me tell you a little about myself so that you can decide if I am the right counsellor for you. I have a COSCA accredited Diploma in Person Centred counselling meaning that I offer a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. I have a creative, eclectic approach and can bring other models into the counselling room where appropriate such as CBT, small world, gestalt and even music. At the moment I offer on-line and telephone counselling, however, post pandemic would also offer outdoor walking therapy.

It takes courage to reach out for support. We can find ourselves stuck in unhelpful patterns and longing for change. Maybe you feel lost, stuck, anxious, depressed or have low self-esteem? Our work together will focus on helping you move forward in the ways you wish. I am dedicated to creating a space where you feel seen, heard and valued. Experience has taught me how essential the strength of the therapeutic relationship is in bringing about positive change. I believe it is through an accepting and compassionate connection that we can transform our perspectives and the way we relate to ourselves and others in the world.

Whatever has motivated you to seek therapy, I can offer you a confidential space in which to explore your feelings, thoughts, relationships, and sense of self. Whether you are dealing with loss, feeling low, or like you have lost your way, then therapy can help. Through collaborative working, you will gain a better understanding of yourself – your feelings and your relationships – which, in turn, will facilitate personal growth and change. We will consider past experiences and relationships; how they have shaped you; and how they influence your feelings, actions, and motivations in the present.

Counselling is a process that is different for everyone, and I am happy to work with you over the long term or short term, depending on your needs. I like to work collaboratively, exploring together the challenges you face. We can work together find ways to address the past, present and move forward into the future in a positive and healthy way. Being able to untangle some of the problems that trouble us can help lead to better relationships with others and ourselves, and ultimately a healthier, happier outlook. These problems and issues can sometimes feel unmanageable on your own, and this is where counselling can help.

Just Human Therapy is a humanist, feminist, LGBTQ+ affirming online counselling service based in Scotland. Going to therapy can feel tough, so I aim to make it as approachable as possible. Often this isn't a quick fix, but an explorative, collaborative process to come back to who you are and what you need. If you're struggling with low mood, lingering trauma affects, or obsessive worry, I can support your steps forward.

When we are trying to make sense of our situation or understand ourselves, we may feel we need someone to hear us. It could be something in particular that is causing you difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self confidence, bereavement or relationship issues (family, personal or work). Or it can be a feeling of uncertainty, something about how you are feeling isn't quite right. We are all part of an interconnected world influenced by and influencing our relationships and situations. For this reason I give attention to what is happening now, your personal history, life situation and narrative.

About me Hi!  I’m Roz and I am an experienced Pluralistic Counsellor, providing online therapy from Edinburgh and South Lanarkshire. I have a Postgraduate Master’s Degree (MSc) in Counselling. I have also worked in the creative industries and love working with and nurturing creative minds. Pluralistic counselling is based on evidence that many different psychotherapy approaches can be affective, and that no one therapy approach suits all people or circumstance. I study many different approaches, therapeutic principles and evidence-based ways of working, but therapy is collaborative, and I work to reflect your needs and preferences.

Some days it can feel a bit too much. Do you exhaust yourself trying to cope with whatever life throws at you? Even when you feel worn out, close to boiling point or increasingly flat inside? You may feel a need to show yourself strong and capable even when you don’t feel like that. You might treat others a lot better than yourself. This is likely to place a huge toll on your mind and body; perhaps even on the very relationships you put so much into. You can learn to carry less of life's burdens by yourself and get more out of your precious time. What dreams have you given up on? What would you do if you could?

Divorce Counsellors

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
