There are times in our lives when things get too difficult to manage on our own. Having a safe, non-judgemental and supportive space can help you make sense of difficult experiences and find a way forward. As a person-centred psychotherapeutic counsellor, I follow your lead and your priorities. I strive to foster your autonomy and empower you to find your own answers to difficulties and make choices about your life. My focus is on supporting clients to develop their sense of inner balance, interpersonal skills and positive relationships with yourself and others.

I believe therapy is transformative. I provide a holding and supportive space where all feelings, thoughts and experiences are welcome. I am an integrative counsellor: I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches depending on your needs. Exploring integration can also mean where our socio-political-cultural context shapes or meets our inner narratives. I adopt an intersectional perspective that invites GSRD and cross-cultural experiences. I maintain a creative, somatic practice and this can feature in therapy when the talking cure feels limited: where the non-verbal feels prevalent or when a ‘rehearsal for life’ feels useful.

My main approach is to encourage you to explore your feelings and take responsibility for your thoughts and actions. As I work in a way that empowers the client, I always work with what you present. Bottled up feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief, jealousy, sadness, shame and pain can become very overwhelming. The opportunity to express them can make it much easier to understand yourself and others. As I acknowledge your feelings and respect you as a person in your own right, you gain self-respect and a sense of being valued. This leads to building trust between counsellor and client, which is an essential part of the process.

My aim is to support you through any difficulty you are experiencing now. I offer a warm, non-judgemental and confidential setting where you can talk about the issues that are distressing you. Together I hope we can gain an understanding of what you want from life, what fulfils you and what holds you back. Normal people go to therapy. They worry about life, relationships, family, fulfilment, have suffered trauma, have caused trauma, have loved and lost. It is entirely reasonable to have times in your life when you’re finding it difficult to cope. Yet going to therapy is a brave decision and looking at this profile is the first step.

I have trained in existential psychotherapy, and I apply this in my work with clients. The starting point is the experience of the client, to provide the opportunity for them to examine their understanding of life, and the problems and dilemmas they face; to reassess their goals and desires. It provides an opportunity to consider how their choices have been constrained, perhaps by the views and expectations of others, but also by constraints rooted in our society. Understanding can lead to questioning, and growth, possibly in new directions.
