Hello, I’m Chris, a qualified and experienced, Accredited BACP psychotherapist and counsellor. I understand how daunting it can be to reach out and make contact, which is why I offer a space that is non-judgemental, interactive, and confidential. It’s a space for you to discuss whatever is on you mind. I am trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, which underpins my theoretical framework. Together, we will explore your thoughts and feelings, looking at behaviour patterns and creating links between your present difficulties and past experiences.

I have over 20 years of experience helping adults to make lasting change. Building a trusting relationship with a therapist who makes you feel understood is the most important basis for any work towards change and growth. There is a lot of self-help material out there, and most people will work very hard to try things on their own to feel better. But doing all this alone can sometimes feel lonely and overwhelming or rather stuck if nothing seems to be working. If that is the case for you, I hope that you will reach out and we can work together to make sense of things and empower you to be able to make the changes you seek.

I offer a warm and empathetic approach in a comfortable and intimate environment. Life can bring its struggles which, for many can lead to the above issues. The impact of our behaviour and anxiety often tips from being manageable to suddenly interfering with daily life, affecting you, your work and the people around you. If you can relate to any of these situations, then let me help.

I work with a person-centered perspective, which means we talk about what is most important to you, offering a compassionate space that is confidential and free from judgement, where you can discuss what is troubling you. I am trained as an Integrative therapist, drawing upon a number of approaches, and we collaborate on working together in a way that is most useful to you. With your hopes regarding therapy in mind, we work at your pace and focus on your needs. In doing so we may explore past experiences, reflect on what affects you in the present, and together work on ways of thinking and behaving that you may wish were different.

I have trained in existential psychotherapy, and I apply this in my work with clients. The starting point is the experience of the client, to provide the opportunity for them to examine their understanding of life, and the problems and dilemmas they face; to reassess their goals and desires. It provides an opportunity to consider how their choices have been constrained, perhaps by the views and expectations of others, but also by constraints rooted in our society. Understanding can lead to questioning, and growth, possibly in new directions.

Are you feeling stuck? Wanting to change and not knowing how. The decision to access therapy can be a daunting one. Embarking on a journey of self-discovery can be challenging and I am privileged to be able to guide others to their own transformation. My goal is to help clients find both the meaning for their behaviours as well as a clear understanding of what’s holding them back, always encouraging them to find the “gift of growth” in every situation. My aim is to provide a safe and nurturing space for you to tell your story with no fear of judgement.

Hello I’m Selene. I have 20 years of experience as a counsellor. I am a warm and open-minded person with a good sense of humour. I offer a welcoming and confidential space where we can together create an empowering therapeutic relationship. I believe you are an expert in your own life and my role is to support and challenge you reconnecting with yourself and your strengths. Counselling is an opportunity to give yourself the time and space to imagine who you want to be. Sometimes fear and shame make us stuck and disconnected from others and not able to ask for what we want. Therapy can help you free yourself and open connection.

To introduce myself – I’m a counsellor specialising in working with ADHD clients and couples, and the challenges which come with navigating diagnosis whether that be the emotional impact, the difficulty in reframing your past, present and future, and the difficult and often drawn-out experience of waiting for assessment, assessment itself, diagnosis, treatment, and medication. I am diagnosed combined-type ADHD and found it enormously beneficial to my work.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
