I see clients (and supervisees) from all backgrounds and specialise in working with men, or women seeking to better understand difficult relationships with men. I work with many issues including stress, feeling sad, low self-esteem, loss and relationship difficulties. My clients often want to change something about themselves and need a place to feel comfortable, share their emotions and better understand their needs. Articulating emotions and needs can be a struggle at first for some and I am experienced in helping clients to open up over time. My work is with individual clients online or in person, both short and long term.

I have experience working with clients in areas such as stress, anxiety, low self esteem, relationship issues (self or others), sexual identity, sexuality, masculine embodiment, depression. I feel coming to therapy can be daunting as clients often do not know what to expect. I like to talk this through with clients and make sure that they feel safe and secure, and we can build a therapeutic relationship together. I provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space in which the you can explore your thoughts and feelings, allowing you to understand more about yourself and your relationships with others at your own pace.

Originally from Manchester, I now live in Glasgow. I started my counselling training in London on Goldsmith University’s Graduate Certificate in Humanistic & Psychodynamic Counselling, before completing the University of Strathclyde’s MSc, Counselling & Psychotherapy. At Strathclyde I trained in Person-Centred Therapy and this forms the basis of my practice. I have experience working with a wide variety of people, I’m particularly familiar with autism and neurodiversity, and I work with all kinds of issues including depression and anxiety, as well as those vague feelings of just not being what you ought to be.

As a psychosexual therapist I work with both individual clients and intimate partners (including polyamorous relationships) where the primary concern is a sexual function or a relationship issue. Some of the most common reasons for attending therapy might include erectile dysfunction, painful intercourse, premature or delayed ejaculation or difficulty achieving orgasm. Relationship issues I can help with include infidelity, desire discrepancy, compulsive sexual behaviours, conflict, communication difficulties. Sometimes couples wish to explore specific sexual interests such as kinks, or navigate how to open up their relationship.

People can find themselves in challenging situations, giving way to certain emotions. The prospect that something may have changed or stopped working can produce the sense of feeling stuck, not knowing what to do can be difficult. Perhaps this has been going on for some time causing effort and exhaustion. This is where therapy can help. I offer genuine warmth, understanding, and togetherness whether your first time or return to therapy. We can look at where you are now and how you got there.

At times of difficulty it can be helpful to explore your concerns with a trained practitioner and consider possible solutions in a safe and confidential setting. The focus of therapeutic work is centred on your experience, helping you to clarify the issues that are troubling you, your thoughts and feelings and enabling you to find solutions. This work can provide a way forward and help at times of crisis when difficulties can be extreme, such as depression and anxiety. It can also be helpful when there is a lack of enjoyment of life or recurring difficulties in relationships. Counselling can bring you a greater awareness of choice.

Not accepting new clients
More people than ever are struggling at present and/or are uncertain about the future. Whether you have a particular issue (stress, anxiety, relationship / work problems, confidence issues, not sleeping, lacking motivation) or are generally "not feeling yourself" you are not alone.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
