Whether you know what the problem is, or even if you don’t, therapy can help. It’s an opportunity to explore yourself; to examine feelings, thought, and motivations to gain understanding - the first step towards navigating a different, happier course. You've taken the first brave step - the next is to call.

A good healthy relationship can enrich our lives and and provide a deep sense of fulfilment, both emotionally and physically. When relationships are not working we often feel frustrated, and confused with measurable consequences on our lives and those around us.There are many reasons why relationships become difficult or unmanageable These may be because of poor communication, arguments that are repeated or never resolved, trust issues, an affair or life stage transitions such as having children, divorce, blended families, bereavement or retirement.

I have worked with people of all ages and background who have suffered from a wide variety of health conditions such as depression, anxiety, grief, stress, and low self-esteem, as well as physical ailments such as substance misuse and alcohol dependency.
Welcome,     I'm Rizwan. I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist here to help you.   I believe the path to positive change is easier when you have the right support in place. That’s why I take a person-centred approach to therapy, where your voice and concerns are the focus of the therapy. This may seem obvious at first look, but it means that the support you receive will be tailored for your needs. It also means is that your life will be at the forefront of all our conversations, because when you have someone working with you, making sure your voice is heard and your needs are met, life is much is easier to live.

Are you struggling through a difficult period in your life and would like to make changes while being supported? Many people experience difficulties when faced with stressful or devastating life situations. Family and friends may be able to give well-intentioned advice but this can be inadequate, inappropriate, or lacking in objectivity, and may cause more harm than good. Turning to someone with the right training, experience, and commitment can be helpful.

I have 15 years experience working with young people whom present with various anxiety disorders, depressive episodes, OCD and trauma. I was once “a young cool practitioner” within NHS services and have since worked for a private service. I must admit I am no longer the “young cool one” but instead “middle aged, experienced practitioner/ therapist”.

Looking for a therapist is a courageous first step to make. You may be feeling uncertain of what might come next. I have found that common themes clients bring often include: • Feelings of shame and a lack of worthiness • Being very self-critical • Feeling rejected, hurt, and alone • Stuck in relationships that are not fulfilling • Feeling that your life lacks purpose • Traumatic experiences that feel like they define you • Would it help to have a space to work through these issues and to feel greater clarity in your life? If any of these issues resonate with you then you might benefit from working with myself as your therapist.

If you want to work through your difficulties so that you can make changes in your life and cope better, then I can help. Please rest assured that no problem is too big, small, embarrassing or shocking to bring to therapy, and I have a wealth of experience in working with a wide variety of issues. My training in both person-centred and CBT counselling allows me to tailor the style of therapy to best suit you and how you like to work; you may already have a good idea of what you want from therapy or you may not be sure at all but we can work together to find out what you want to achieve and then design our sessions around that.

There is a broad spectrum of reasons why people seek and can benefit from counselling. The reasons may seem clear, or may feel somewhat out of reach, yet there is a sense that talking to someone may help? Counselling can help us to better understand the source of our distress, find resolutions and move forward in ways that serve us better as individuals. I consider it a privilege to work with people in this endeavour and recognise that it is important that you find the right person to talk to.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
