I work hard to honor and create space for experiences of frustration, worry, grief, and excitement and try to listen to what these experiences can teach us about our hopes, values and identity.
I strongly believe in client-centered therapy, trusting that the client is the expert on their own life and that my role is to offer a safe space and professional support for the client as they pursue their goals. I work with my clients to understand the motivations behind their thoughts, feelings, and actions and model a posture of empathy and curiosity towards these parts of themselves. I have worked with a wide variety of clients and issues, including families, couples, youth, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and BPD.

From me you can expect open and authentic conversations about sharing our raw truths, and, where appropriate, good wholesome humor! "Now offering various Grief Support Groups on Saturday mornings please contact me for more info"!.
One of the hardest things to say/admit is 'I/we need help'. It takes courage, openness, trust and self-awareness, which can be difficult to foster on our own. Whether you need tools for symptom management (anxiety, depression, nervous system dysregulation, people pleasing behaviours, trauma responses, addictions, relational distress) or you want to deep dive into past experiences for better understanding and meaning, we can work towards developing a treatment plan that helps you create the life you want going forward. Develop the "life hacks" you need to bounce back from challenges with grace and grit!

I think we would be a great fit if your goals include processing loss, the impact of interpersonal trauma, making sense of something that does not yet make sense or deepening your self awareness in order to feel more settled in your daily experiences.
I deeply believe in the power of balancing connection, change and radical acceptance. My hope is to help you learn how to meet the inevitability painful parts of life with humour, grace, and creativity rather than the many (and very human) ways in which we avoid difficult moments in order to live wholeheartedly with purpose and self compassion. I help my clients navigate challenges with the goal of fully experiencing the richness of their lives without fear of feeling overwhelmed by intense emotion.

I specialize in trauma/PTSD, couples counselling, mindfulness, and grief work.
I work from a strength based model, recognizing you as the expert in your life. Together we discuss goals for therapy, and collaborate on the best approach, while incorporating individualized coping strategies, attachment based perspectives, nervous system regulation, and mindfulness. I use Accelerated Resolution Therapy to treat trauma/PTSD/phobias. This is a brief therapy and treatment can be accomplished in 1-5 sessions. A.R.T uses bilateral stimulation, with a specific script (this allows you to go into the trauma without retelling). A.R.T is more somatic based than cognitive, compared to other treatments (EMDR)

Are you going through a transition in your life that is evoking feelings of anxiety, fear, sadness and overwhelm? Are you feeling stuck making difficult decisions and feeling unsure about what to do next? I have been a practicing clinical social worker/therapist since 2002 and have many years experience working with individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss. I have a special interest in helping people navigate the complex world of grief, loss and periods of transition in their life. I know that therapy can be confronting and I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach.

Navigating life and relationships can be difficult. Do you find yourself stuck in patterns of negative thoughts or behaviours? Do you find yourself relating to yourself, others, or the world in ways that are not really working for you? Do you find yourself struggling with letting go of the past, people or things, with things like addictions, loss of loved ones, and traumas? If you experiencing any of these things, or have a similar struggle, it is common to feel anxious, frustrated, depressed, overwhelmed, hopeless, isolated, and desperate for something to change. This can be very difficult to navigate out of on your own.

Life can be difficult, and we all stumble at times. I think that one of the bravest things a person can do when they are struggling is to seek help. At the heart of psychotherapy is change. Whether your struggle is centered around relational issues/conflict, trauma/ loss, an important life transition, addiction, sexuality issues, depression, stress, anxiety, or feeling stuck, your commitment to change is your ticket to feeling better.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
