I specialize in healing, more specifically trained & certified in EMDR therapy.
Hi, I'm Rhea, a social worker supporting those who yearn to lead a heart-centered life. Many people I serve long to heal, are curious about understanding their emotions, relationships, others & their inner worlds. Together, we break intergenerational wounds and heal from trauma. I believe in your ability to heal, and work from a whole system perspective. Perhaps it's depression, anxiety, birth trauma, professional relationships, parenting, feelings of uncertainty, patterns you can't resolve, childhood wounds or beyond. You desire to feel better, find balance & thrive.

The therapists at The Dot have a range of skills including EMDR, Gestalt, Somatic, EFT, as well as the more classic forms like CBT and DBT.
If you're feeling disconnected, distracted, and detached from your life, it may be time to look at why. Why can't I connect, why am I not able to just "get over" my past, or why does it all feel so meaningless? Maybe there are other questions, like “what am I doing with my life” or “who do I want to be?”. It’s okay to take time that's just for you, to look at your life and see both the big picture and explore the often overlooked details. With the right support, you can feel more present, connected, and in control of your life.

I specialize in trauma treatment, using EMDR and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
I understand that finding the right therapist can be a challenging process, and I appreciate you taking this step. In my work with individuals, I focus on exploring how early childhood experiences and upbringing shape our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us. Sometimes, the beliefs we develop to protect ourselves can unintentionally create challenges in our lives and relationships. Together, we’ll identify and understand how these past experiences continue to affect you today. By addressing these root concerns, we can work toward fostering a more adaptive and healing view of yourself.

I pull from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused, and EMDR.
Are you experiencing ongoing difficulties in your daily life as a result of traumatic events you have endured? Do you struggle with self-esteem, attachment issues, emotion regulation, or a sense of identity? Symptoms of trauma can include anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, and intrusive memories, as well as difficulties with trust, intimacy, and relationships. You might not identify as having experienced trauma, but I’m confident in saying that we all can identify with experiencing some of the above. If this feels true to you, know that your not alone and I am here to help.

Through a relational and experiential process, I will bring attention and compassion to your suffering and untended needs. You can expect me to be warm, direct, steady, and responsive. Additionally, I am Queer & Trans affirming, kink-aware, and knowledgeable around polyamory/non monogamy.

I use an eclectic approach and take from different evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions that I am trained in to establish an approach based on my clients needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Person centred therapy , Psychodynamic therapy, and EMDR Therapy and Trauma-Informed Therapy.
We all face challenges in life and can lose a sense of ourselves. I strive to uncover a person’s authentic self, in allowing them to understand their purpose and bring empowerment and healing. During our meetings, it is important for me to create an alliance with you from a non-judgemental space that fosters trust. I value all parts of a person that are conflicted, afraid, ashamed, and parts that appear relentless.

EMDR Counsellors

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
