I work with trauma, and have helped many adult survivors.
At the deepest level, you want to be seen, understood and accepted. And then you want partnership and support as you work on changing your life. Are you sad too much? Struggling? Fearful? Do you give yourself a hard time? Perhaps right now is the time -- the time to take yourself on as a project. I work with traumatic grief and loss — with some of the most painful experiences people endure.

My approaches are rooted in trauma-theory, attachment theory, and are client centered.
Counselling is about helping the client. What this looks like will differ for each individual. My role as a therapist is to support you in the ways that will meet your individual needs, wants, goals and expectations. Together we build a relationship where the focus is on understanding the healing that has to take place in order for you to grow in the ways that you are looking for. I work with adults, youth, and support a variety of issues, including PTSD, addictions, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, and relationships.

I believe that by turning toward our challenges in therapy, we can heal, grow, and find a more profound sense of fulfillment and radical aliveness. I am experienced in working with individuals with various mental and psychological struggles, such as personality disorders, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, phobia, anxiety, insomnia, grief and loss issues, early trauma, sexual problems, couple relationship problems, low self-esteem and self-image, and other developmental issues.
Hello, 你好!I am a registered clinical counsellor specializing in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. In essence, this psychotherapy helps individuals change and grow from within because inner change is long-lasting and stable. It helps them find relief from mental or emotional stress, identify the hidden roots in the past to their present psychological pain, promote self-reflection and self-examination, develop a better understanding of present challenges, develop more effective and constructive coping methods, and facilitate life transformation and personality growth.

These brains of ours don't come with instruction manuals - figuring out how to navigate life is tough enough, but can sometimes seem impossible when we experience mental health difficulties. I specialize in working with people with BPD (attachment trauma), anxiety and OCD, couples, and folks who have complex difficulties and may have received multiple diagnoses. Therapy can be a strange process, I try to make it simple and straightforward. We get to know each other, and figure out if we’re a good fit. We get a clear picture of what the problems are, and what’s going wrong (and what’s going right) in your life.

I've successfully helped in longstanding issues with people related to trauma, anxiety, panic, relationship stress, up and down emotions, and overall lack of motivation.
Sometimes it’s hard to notice when things aren't going well. It might be subtle signs that pop up at the end of the day. You feel like the day is going well and you’re keeping busy. But as soon as you have a moment of silence, your mind starts to cycle through things that you just don't want to think about. Do you find it hard to sit still and be at peace in these moments? Do you distract yourself as much as possible just so you don’t listen to your own thoughts? Maybe you have a hard time completing any of your important tasks? These are all normal reactions. Signals that your body is giving you to pay attention to.

I have extensive training and experience working with individuals with anxiety and mood disorders, PTSD, concussion and other chronic health conditions.
At times feelings, or life circumstances become so intense or painful, we become desperate to find ways to fix, avoid, or control them. We may get stuck in worry and self-doubt, avoid meaningful activities, feel unable to let go of control, withdraw from relationships, shut down feelings, ruminate on past hurts, escape into TV, the internet, video games, drugs or alcohol, or get pulled into compulsive or impulsive behaviours. What was meant to fix the problem, ends up making it worse. As life becomes about controlling feelings, it becomes less about what is really important to us - our values and passions.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
