At the deepest level, you want to be seen, understood and accepted. And then you want partnership and support as you work on changing your life. Are you sad too much? Struggling? Fearful? Do you give yourself a hard time? Perhaps right now is the time -- the time to take yourself on as a project. I work with traumatic grief and loss — with some of the most painful experiences people endure.

In therapy, you are in control of what is talked about. You have choice, autonomy and you know yourself best. The therapists role is to seek to understand the client on a deeper level, and to hold space for any and all feelings that might arise. The frameworks I draw from are trauma-informed, and are designed to support individuals who have experienced significant pain and suffering. While understanding theoretical models is important, counselling is rooted in the strength of relationship that is created between us.

Humans tend to function from certain perceptions of the world based on blueprints we've been conditioned by. There is no right or wrong in the life we chose for ourselves, but inherited belief systems and strategies may've kept us feeling connected-enough at earlier times in our lives. I work with people who want to shake out the shame so that they can find more freedom in all aspects of life. I feel fortunate to be working with people in a meaningful way and love to open myself to the hope & resilience of the human spirit. Inner work can help us feel more clear in purpose and even more empowered in sex, love and relationships.

Before getting into who I treat you should know that because of Covid-19 and the flu I am only doing sessions online or by telephone. The clients I treat are adults who may be dealing with things such as anxiety, PTSD, trauma, family of origin issues, relationship issues, grief and loss, depression, life decisions, career challenges, life and workplace stress. I see clients wanting to overcome a personal challenge to be able to feel more free and alive to pursue a healthier and less stressful life. I also see couples wanting to improve their relationship skills and reduce conflict.

My focus is strongly influenced by a person-centered therapy approach to wellness through different methods such as Eco-therapy or expressive art therapy techniques and using the natural elements available to us should the sessions call for such an approach. Reducing stress and anxiety to create a more peaceful person inside who can claim their meaning and be more joyful in life is a difficult path to walk alone. I am here to help and be part of the healing journey. I have completed my diploma in April of 2023 and plan to continue my education and training to better serve the clients I take on as I evolve as a counsellor.

It takes courage to make this first step and in choosing to move forward, you have already started. With this in mind, and with the understanding that people approach counselling for many different reasons, we will move forward together in a way that best meets your individual needs.

Using a person-centered and strength-based approach, I help my patients live the life they desire. In therapy, building the life you desire can take the shape of processing deep core materials or experiences, focusing on relationships, life transitions or employment. Similarly, you may be seeking support for anxiety, depression or a crisis in your life. I aim to provide a culturally safe environment that is inclusive and trauma informed. I am an ally of the LGBTQ2+S community.

In my sessions, I want clients to feel truly listened to. Therapy, in my view, is a space for a client to experience empathetic and genuine attention which may be rarely found in everyday life. With this kind of attention, people can face problems and develop strengths much more easily than on their own. Ultimately, my goal is to help people get to the point at which they can manage their mental health without me, by using the tools and skills we develop during our sessions.

Accepting Clients for Online and In-Person Sessions in January. Anxiety? Are you feeling overwhelmed ? Sad, numb, depressed, grief-stricken, triggered, unable to relax? I offer non-judgemental, down to earth sessions where you can come to be heard, to talk about what's really happening for you, to work on realistic goals, helpful tools and solutions. I have experienced a great deal of grief, trauma and anxiety in my life. I struggled with chronic pain for many years after a car accident and lost a sibling to terminal illness, I know how hard it is to be strong all the time and to try to do it all alone.

How can I find a therapist in Cowichan Bay?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
