Integrative approaches based on Rogerian Principles, Gottman Couples' Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, REBT, Feminism, Narrative Therapy, CBT, DBT, Family Systems, Art Therapy, and Behavioural Therapy.
My counselling aims to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable. I provide a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings. By discussing your concerns with you, I can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, as well as identifying ways of finding your own solutions to problems. It can be a great relief to share your worries and fears with someone who acknowledges your feelings and is able to help you reach a positive solution.

From a positive psychology Adlerian perspective, I believe that everyone has a fundamental need to connect with others, and that people thrive when they feel accepted, understood, and achieve a sense of belonging.
Feeling stuck? My approach is to build on your strengths, moving you from where you are to where you want to be. I endeavour to enhance the therapeutic relationship by creating a caring and nurturing space for you to express feelings, emotions, behaviours, and relationships. My compassionate nature brings to the counselling relationship the sense of safety, support, and encouragement you need. When facing difficult life tasks, I provide the encouragement to explore new ways to approach your concerns, help shift perspectives and create fresh insights.

As an Adlerian therapist I work from a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach, believing we are all capable of change when we feel safe, heard, understood, supported, and encouraged.
“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen” -Brene Brown. Whether you’re new to therapy or a returning client, welcome! Starting this process can be challenging. With a compassionate and holistic approach, I strive to create a safe space for us to work collaboratively, navigating through possible barriers causing you to feel stuck or discouraged. We are all unique and complex; together we can couragously address challenges related to self, relationships, sexuality, work/school, and struggles within community/family/friends, with the goal to create greater clarity, peace of mind, and meaningful actions!

I am a passionate individual/couples therapist, and OEI trainer specializing in anxiety, developmental disorders, attachment, relationships and family dynamics. I aim to provide a therapeutic space where both adults and couples can explore and learn new tools to manage their presenting concerns, while understanding where these patterns are rooted in our neurophysiology "blueprints", helping them move into an empowerment and resiliency state of being. Similarly, I offer clinicians the opportunity to continue their learning in OEI (Level II) through knowledge and an experiential approach to training.

Accepting new clients in my practice -Sometimes it’s easier to say I’m fine – instead of admitting the truth, even to yourself. The truth might be that you are feeling sad or lonely. The truth might be that you are feeling insecure or hopeless. The truth might be that you are disappointed or hurt, anxious or maybe embarrassed. The truth might be that you are feeling ashamed. The truth might be that you are minimizing, avoiding or ignoring core parts of your identity. Maybe you have inadvertently locked yourself into what you think is socially acceptable?

During my 15 years as a medical doctor and 4 years as a counsellor I learned that challenges are part of the human experience and we all feel stuck at some point in our lives, but also that movement and growth are always possible. I strive to provide a safe and compassionate interpersonal space where you can remove obstacles and create the life that you want.

When one individual tries to solve multiple problems at the same time, things can easily get overwhelming. My sessions focus on helping my clients narrow down their problems to manageable goals, help them detangle their thoughts and gain clarity on their situation. I help them manage overwhelming emotions, such as anxiety, guilt and shame, and gain a sense of direction when dealing with life transitions. My approach helps my clients focus on parts of their problem that are within their control, while making sure that these changes have a trickle effect on aspects they want to change, but have no control over.

Whatever has brought you here - the weariness of depression, the struggle of addiction, the heaviness of anxiety, the uncertainty of life in its entirety - I welcome you. Whether you have experienced a trauma, are going through a life transition, or just need someone to talk to, someone who will listen without judgement or scorn, my passion and goal as a clinician is to hold the space for you, walk with you through the darkness, guide you to peace and well-being, and help you to live a life you love.

My approach to counselling is a psychodynamic, person-centred, and trauma-informed approach. The psychodynamic approach can help us gain new insights into our lives, and by integrating art into the session, it can become a powerful mind-body-oriented resource for individuals to look into themselves, and at their concerns, from a different angle.

Many people who struggle with infertility, miscarriage, birth trauma, or postpartum depression and anxiety report feeling alone and that no one understands them. These challenges can trigger complex emotions such as feeling lost, helpless, angry, numb, or hopeless about the future. For many individuals, when they feel lost or hopeless, they just want to feel validated and understood. When they're feeling stuck, they want to know that it won't be like this forever and they may want help finding their way forward. Working with a therapist who understands these struggles can help a person feel seen and allow them to find their way.

Are you in need of someone to talk to? Do you face challenges with grief and loss, anxiety or substance use? I am here to support you. Many of my clients express a desire to find happiness, yet only 13% of people feel engaged in their daily work, according to a recent poll. I believe we must listen to our hearts and understand what they need to thrive. HOW we do that is through: Honesty, Openness and Willingness. In the words of John O’Donahue, “May you have the courage to listen to the yearning, trust the promise of this opening and discover that the one you long for, longs for you”.

How does Adlerian psychology work?

In the framework of Adlerian therapy, people are motivated by a sense of belonging and community, which drives them to surmount feelings of inferiority so as to contribute to their society; fulfilling these desires can help people flourish. Adlerian therapy proceeds in four stages—engagement, assessment, insight, and reorientation—in an overall effort to understand the client’s past and to achieve their present-day humanistic goals.

Is Adlerian therapy humanistic?

Yes, Adlerian psychology is humanistic; it focuses on the whole person, emphasises their strengths rather than just their symptoms, and centers them in determining how they can grow and flourish. This school of thought informed the work of Abraham Maslow, who went on to develop humanistic psychology.

How long does Adlerian therapy take?

Adlerian therapy is a short-term, goal-oriented form of therapy that takes around 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Of course, some people may be in therapy for a shorter or longer time frame; length depends on the individual and the problem or condition they wish to treat. Clients can ask their therapist about the timeline for treatment before they begin and check in periodically to ensure that they’re on the same page in terms of progress.

Is Adlerian therapy evidence based?

There is not as much evidence to support the effectiveness of Adlerian therapy as there is for other types of therapy such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. But Adlerian therapy may be the right therapy for some people—whether they’re seeking to treat mental disorders or achieve self-growth—especially those looking for a holistic approach that emphasises relationships, community, self-worth, and purpose.
