With 12 years of experience as a science teacher supporting neurodivergent youth, I have a deep understanding of ADHD's effects and the tools needed to cope with it.
When your mind is constantly pulled in a thousand directions, it can be difficult to start even the simplest tasks. You might feel overwhelmed by your to-do list, frustrated by missed deadlines, and different from everyone else because you can’t seem to control your own brain. Eventually, the chaos, the distractions, and the constant battle to stay focused just gets discouraging. The good news is that whether you're a teen trying to make it through 11th grade or an adult who recently discovered you have ADHD, it’s never too late to learn new coping skills. I'm here to help you take back control of your brain.

I believe balance in our lives is essential to living happy, healthy lives. Sometimes this balance can be thrown off by life circumstances, our busy lives, or our desire to be helpful to our friends and family. In our work together, we can explore all of these challenges and can develop a plan to restore balance. I also believe that the client is the expert in their life. I am willing to be the expert on the different factors that can contribute to a person’s emotional well-being and mental health. Together, we can explore the strategies that will fit your personality and lifestyle.

Hello, my name is Chinelle Stubbs and I bring a well-rounded skill set to my practice with over twelve years of experience working within a variety of settings. Through a non-judgmental and strength-based approach, I orchestrate solution-focused, and trauma informed management plans designed to aid individuals in recognizing and using their strengths and resources to effectively cope and resolve the challenges impacting their mental health. I have been fortunate to gain extensive practical and clinical experience through employment, education, and volunteering; including employment with various school boards in Ontario.

For the last 6 years, I have worked with survivors of trauma - including sexual violence, familial violence, racial trauma, homophobia, among others - to address and process their experiences. My approach to therapy is warm, responsive, playful and transparent. I believe that every person benefits from learning about themselves, and that understanding the process of therapy helps with learning about the self. I meet you where you are (literally, in some ways, as I am offering digital therapy), and believe we can move from there. I want therapy to be useful, and welcome honesty, feedback, and laughter in session.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
