MAT is a form of outpatient treatment that can help those who have an addiction to heroin, prescription painkillers, or other opioids. Outpatient treatment programs like MAT are flexible and convenient, so adults can get the treatment they need while still working, going to school, or fulfilling other obligations. The medication used in MAT can alleviate the severity of withdrawal symptoms, including cravings, which decreases a person’s chances of using illicit drugs again, getting into legal trouble, or contracting infectious diseases. Along with the use of medication, MAT includes individual and group counseling sessions. This therapeutic component allows adults to address any underlying mental health disorder symptoms or behavioral concerns that may be contributing to their use of opioids. Located in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Manitowoc Mobile Unit provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with addictions to opioids. Our mobile unit serves patients from Alverno, Kellners Corners, Two Rivers, and surrounding areas. MAT combines the use of prescription medication with counseling to comprehensively address the unique needs of each person. This treatment method has proved effective in the United States for many years, and organizations like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) support it as a first-line treatment for people who have addictions to opioids like prescription painkillers and heroin. The medications we use in MAT are approved by the FDA and can ease the distressing symptoms of opioid withdrawal. MAT incorporates counseling sessions, which can help patients learn healthy coping skills and relapse prevention strategies. By taking part in MAT, patients can make strides toward lasting recovery.
