Hello! My name is Donna Murray and I look forward to connecting with you. I’ve had the joy of working in the counseling field for over 25 years in multiple settings including: private practice, inpatient and outpatient, home-based, school-based and residential detox. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the states of Ohio, West Virginia and North Carolina and have been offering counseling services since 1996. Currently, I also serve on the West Virginia Certification Board for Addiction & Prevention Professionals.

I have had the pleasures of working in different areas of the mental health field including domestic violence, sexual assault, drug and alcohol, and LGBTQIA+. I have been drawn to work with teens and young adults who deal with symptoms of Chronic Illnesses, Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder, Addiction, Anxiety, and Depression. I use Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). This is an action-oriented where individuals learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with their inner emotions. They accept that these deeper feelings are natural responses to certain situations that should not prevent them from moving.

In my practice I provide a comforting relaxing non-judgmental atmosphere in which to process thoughts and feelings at your own pace. I also believe you are the "boss" because I don't live in your head or walk in your shoes. I will make suggestions as to how to cope, challenge, manage thoughts, and feelings while improving relationships through the process. I will never tell you what to do because it is up for you to decide as to what works best. My time with you will be focused on how I can help you become the best version of yourself.

I believe nothing is “wrong” with a person who experiences pain or suffering, or who isn't positive all of the time, because pain is a normal part of being human. I practice a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients learn how to experience difficult thoughts and emotions without suppressing them, in order to make values-based decisions. I believe you can build a fulfilling life no matter what has happened to you. I additionally practice EMDR to help individuals safely reprocess traumatic experiences. I am an EMDR Certified Therapist.

Life can be overwhelming and present with so many uncertainties. I would like to provide you with a safe place to sort through your thoughts and feelings and empower you to be the best version of yourself that you can be. With over 20 years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor in WV and OH, I have been able to assist individuals, couples and families on their journey to improving their emotional well-being, as well as necessary behavioral changes.

My interest lies in working with individuals who isolate, have lost interest in the things they once enjoyed, and/or who think this world would be better off without them. I'm also interested in working with individuals who are tired of worrying, or want to be more social. And last, but not least, I take interest in working with individuals who “just want to be normal,” who can’t sleep for fear of having another nightmare, or who feel damaged because of a violation of their personal safety. In summary, I am interested in working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, and PTSD/trauma.

Sometimes you can hit a wall and experience overwhelming emotions. It can be confusing to sort out your thoughts and feelings during that experience. Many times this is rooted in trauma, childhood adversities, family dynamics, or relational stresses. My role as your therapist is to help you understand how your past is in your present. Learning themes and patterns will help you facilitate the change that is needed to relieve these symptoms. Together we can peel back the layers. Awareness is the key to healing!

Sometimes it feels like our mind won’t shut off. One thought turns into 10, and before we know it, we’ve spent more time than we wanted going down the mental rabbit hole. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety, and Phobias often take up space rent free in our mind making us act or behave a certain way to feel better.
