My ideal client is someone who is willing to work with me in order to achieve their goal. This includes being able to have back and forth conversation around ways to achieve that goal, as well as have the more difficult conversations when it comes to road blocks and the occasional self sabotaging behavior. I will always be honest in my assessments, and thoughts, and my hope would be that my client is as well.

Whether predicted or unexpected, change can be some of the most difficult territory to navigate alone. Getting to the other side of a life transition tends to include addressing fears, grieving losses, and exploring and integrating new identities. In my practice, I provide a caring, non-judgmental place for clients to understand themselves better, process difficult feelings, change painful habits, and build a more satisfying life. Together we will figure out what it is you need in order to regain your balance and sense of freedom.

I provide individual counseling to young adults/adults in transition with a warm, easy-going and compassionate style. I've lived in countries including Kenya, Germany, France, Korea, China and all over the U.S. (NYC, DC, LA, Boston) and incorporate a more multi-cultural, sensitive approach. I focus on the client's desire to feel better overall. I also focus on overall health&wellness, including mindfulness, the arts, spirituality& faith, food/nutrition, & physical fitness.

Hello! I am a licensed psychologist who works with children, teens and young adults coping with anxiety, stress, low-mood, ADHD/executive function difficulties, relationship issues and life transitions. I work well with athletes, those who identify as high-achieving, and enjoy supporting the transition into adulthood. Many people I work with are looking to better understand and address the root cause(s) of their distress while also learning the skills necessary to increase their functioning, well-being or performance. I am currently only working with clients virtually.

There is a misconception that therapy is a place to seek advice, or vent to a therapist who sits passively, nodding with tacit understanding. Instead, imagine a therapy that makes no attempt to reduce symptoms, but achieves symptom reduction as a by-product. The more time and energy we spend trying to control, avoid, or get rid of unwanted private experiences the more we are likely to suffer psychologically in the long term. Therapy can support mindful action and direction which can then create a more meaningful life, even in the presence of pain.

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
