At times, trauma can get us locked in painful patterns of interacting with others or responding to our environment. Whether we are re-living pain and hurt in our relationships or reacting to triggers around us in ways that no longer serve us, the results can leave us depressed, chronically stressed, and exhausted. Living an authentic life that includes joy and fulfillment does not have to be a fantasy. Therapy can help you gain some clarity about your struggles and give you the tools you need to make transformational changes.

Sometimes life feels overwhelming and out of control. It can leave us feeling consumed by stress, anxiety, anger, depression, and hopelessness. While these emotions are an expected part of life, there are times they can grow so strong and intense that we feel powerless to manage them on our own. We may see their impact on various parts of our life – family, work, social relationships, our ability to feel pleasure, our overall quality of life. If this resonates with you, if this is what you are experiencing, therapy can help.

Hi. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Provider (CCATP), and owner of Better Mind - Better You, LLC. Everyone experiences roadblocks from time to time and those blocks come in many forms (anxiety, trauma, depression, boundaries, grief, etc) and impact our lives in unhealthy ways. When we learn to understand those roadblocks and figure out ways to manage them and/or remove them we can move forward with the specific goals we have for our own lives. Figuring out roadblocks can feel overwhelming and you don't have to take the journey alone.

I’m a certified EMDR therapist, and use techniques/philosophies from Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy.
Currently, not accepting new clients. Life seems too demanding in a world where you are required to balance work or school, family responsibilities, maintain healthy friendships, a clean home and an instagram-worthy lifestyle. Add in a mental health concern or a harmful habit you just can't break, and life can feel even more defeating. If you are ready to get vulnerable and honest, have the courage to explore your past, the willingness to challenge old thought patterns and try new coping skills, I cannot wait to work with you! Together, we will work towards a life filled with more peace, joy and empowerment.

With over a decade of experience I utilize multiple modalities, pending the need, with extensive training in DBT and RO-DBT.
Life isn’t always about being able to breathe easy, but sometimes it takes your breath completely away. If you are having difficulty in catching your breath, being present in your daily life, feeling stuck or going through a difficult time, I want to help. I hold in high regard the theory of self-actualization, which allows a person to recognize their own strengths and gives them the capability to use their strengths in their journey, at their own pace, and by their own choice. My goal is to empower individuals with knowledge and tools and personal growth so that they can live successful lives.

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
