I have been in private practice since 1992. Prior to earning my doctorate in clinical psychology, I was an elementary school teacher for seven years. About 70 percent of my current practice is with children and teens and 30 percent with adults, families, and couples. I absolutely love my vocation! I am privileged to join people on their journeys, to meet them where they are and go from there. I am committed to partnering with my patients to help them reach their full potential. I place a high value on the therapeutic relationship.

Did you experience a recent traumatic event, like a frightening car accident or sudden death of a loved one. Were you raised in a chaotic or abusive home. Unresolved trauma can lead to flashbacks, a sense of being disconnected from others, mood swing. Some survivors of trauma feel like they are always waiting for the other shoe to drop or like they always have to have their guard up around others. If you have felt trapped by your past trauma or even beyond repair because of the traumatic life experiences you have endured then I can help. I am passionate about helping people resolve trauma so they can live a life full of meaning.

I believe that resilience is in all of us and healing is a path we can choose to walk at any time if we are willing to take the first step. Sometimes even helping professionals need their own helper, someone to listen to their experiences and walk alongside them as they process the challenges of helping. Focusing on secondary traumatic stress and occupational stress issues I believe my role as a therapist is to support clients as they navigate their healing process.

Welcome! I am a mother to six children ranging in ages 24 to 9. One in college, one serving her country and four keeping me busy at home. I am also a Combat medic Army veteran having served all over the world including beautiful Afghanistan. Before I would join the military, I was a 9th grade high school drop-out. Literally born on the floor of an old shack in Florida. I have known poverty and abuse. The military changed my idea of who I could be.

Sandplay Therapists

What problems are best treated with sandplay therapy?

Research has examined this therapy’s utility in young people and found positive results. It has been shown to be useful for those who suffer from autism, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, and or aggressive behavior. Children who have suffered abuse, neglect, or trauma have also seen improvement through this therapy. Abused children are often fearful and anxious about their safety, making verbal communication more difficult.

Is sandplay therapy suitable for children and teenagers?

Children and adolescents are good candidates for sandplay therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts, let alone the emotions they are experiencing. Through this play therapy, they will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Is sandplay suitable for adults?

This type of therapy can be useful for adults who have difficulties expressing themselves. People who have suffered neurological changes after a brain injury or because of a traumatic event might be good candidates for this therapy. In fact, anything that has had an effect on the brain, such as substance abuse, can make non-verbal sandplay a valuable option.

Does sandplay therapy work?

There have been studies on the effectiveness of sandplay therapy, and it appears to improve difficult behaviors in children. It may also enhance self-esteem and lessen feelings of physical anxiety as well as hypersensitivity. This type of therapy is based on non-verbal communication and may feel less threatening to the individual.
