Welcome to Heale! Learn, Grow and Heal... Individuals have the strength and resources to meet their needs and solve their unique problems. Oftentimes, we get stuck in patterns of communication and/or behaviors which no longer meet our needs. Change occurs when individuals are provided the safety and security of expression, validation, exploring problems, underlying patterns of behaviors or unmet needs and identifying solutions. I work to empower individuals to take steps towards recovery.

Life often presents challenges that may seem insurmountable. Challenges, such as negative feelings of depression or anxiety, chronic illnesses, school based issues, relationship and communication difficulties, can poorly influence all areas of life, leading to distress. Counseling is a process that provides a pathway allowing you and or your family to identify many choices available in positive and effective ways. Healthy relationships are vital for emotional, physical and cognitive growth. The healthier a relationship is the more likely you are able to develop and use coping skills productively and better understand your choices.

Life is full of twists and turns and can become overwhelming at times. Therapy is an effective way to deal with life’s roadblocks. Seeking help is often misunderstood but should be seen as a strength. Let me help guide you on the right path. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families, joining with them to process their thoughts and emotions, and create clear, achievable goals. I believe that there are reasons for all behaviors and once understood can be life changing.

It's essential for people to grow intellectually, physically, and emotionally. To do this, we must be grounded by a sense of who we are as individuals and who we would like to be with others. Being able to connect and maintain healthy, lasting relationships allows us to feel competent and confident in ourselves. It's easy to trust others if we are secure in ourselves. However, when our confidence in ourselves is tested, we often become reluctant to ask for help. This is what we refer to as being "stuck".

"We were good in the beginning...what happened?" Initially, your partner lit up your world. They spoke your language, met your needs, made you feel....amazing. But now there's distance, there's bickering, there's irritability, there's...boring routine. You lie awake and imagine the possibilities: rekindling that fire, reconnecting on a soulful level, reclaiming what was together yours. And it all sounds wonderful...but you wonder how to actually accomplish this. Has too much happened? Has too much time passed? With dedicated attention, you can re-discover the passion, the connection, the friendship, and the love that you shared.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
