i work with clients ages 10and over but primarily adults with a widevarietyof mood,anxiety,obsessive compulsive.grief,chronic pain and illness,personality disorders.anger and stressmanagement,grief issues,bipolar disorder,ADHD.couples therapy.With all of my clients I focus on identifying their distressing dysfunctional symptoms,their negative thoughts that lead to debilitating emotions and behaviors,and teaching my clients positive coping skills such as emotional deregulation,interpersonal effectiveness,staying in the present,and learning distress tolerance skills,I perform family,individal,and couples therapy focusing on the treatment of adolescents as well as adult clients to maximize their potential.

I have helped my patients gain support, understanding and emotional resiliency through interpersonal, supportive psychotherapy and marital and/or parent counseling. I have extensive training in cognitive-behavioral therapy and behavior techniques for child and adolescent management and mood and motivation issues.

When I worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, I made it a point to meet with patients before reading their chart. As a clinical supervisor of graduate-level social work students, I emphasized the importance of listening without the cloud of a diagnosis and repeated histories. Emotions need to be heard, whether in the form of fierce opinions or protective language. This can happen, in conversation, if the therapist is able to shed or expose known competing biases.

You will get the benefit of a therapist who has over 30 years experience but who still enjoys the challenge of helping every client explore their issues and find the right solutions and strategies for accomplishing them. I am extremely sensitive to diversity and multi-cultural issues, have dealt with clients from many ethnic groups and speak excellent Spanish. I am also very conversant with workplace issues, having also pursued a corporate career and functioned in that environment.
