Life gets really hard these days. There is so much stress and there are so many expectations to deal with. From having perfect children to being the perfect parent, some days it is all too much. And it feels impossible. The weight of our own guilt, anxiety, or depression that stems from not feeling adequate, or from family difficulties can leave us drained. As a parent and an LMHC with years of experience working with children and adults with any number of behavioral or mental health needs, believe me, I get it. I can help you thrive.

We are all the products of our earliest emotional conditioning. A majority of us do not come from ideal upbringings due to the complexities of parenting. As a result, we all experience, and become accustomed to, varying levels of irritation and develop a "pushing away" defense to real intimacy. Because of this common dynamic, many people become creatures of maladaptive habits and develop destructive habits, ego deficits, and severe intimacy issues. If this sounds familiar to you, please consider calling me.

Hello! I’m Danyele Ferrara, LMSW, and I’m truly passionate about helping individuals and families find their path to mental wellness. My journey into mental health began after realizing that my previous career wasn’t giving me the fulfillment I craved. I wanted to make a real difference in people’s lives, especially those dealing with mental health issues. I earned my Master of Social Work from Fordham University in 2009. I started my professional journey working with children with severe mental health issues and their families to navigate mental health challenges.

Liz is a clinical social worker with specialties working with pregnant and parenting folks, as well as young children and their families and knows welcoming a new baby to the family comes with a host of challenges and changes: from hormonal shifts and changes in our brains and bodies to changes in employment, lifestyle, relationships, and reflecting on our own experiences of being parented. She is highly experienced in working with pregnant, birthing, postpartum, and parenting folks with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders—or just struggling with the changes in demands, identity, and daily structure.

I specialize in treating individuals who struggle with anxiety, parenting challenges, women working from home or new moms, students, and individuals facing life adjustments & negative coping skills.
Therapy is about exploring, experimenting, discovering, and being vulnerable. In our therapy together you will learn to increase self-compassion and mindfulness, and your ability to sit with uncertainty and bear witness to uncomfortable feelings and body sensations. You will gain awareness of the role negative core beliefs and thoughts have upon mood and learn how to challenge those negative thought patterns. You will learn to set appropriate boundaries by asserting feelings, recognizing wants and needs, and identifying the role shame and guilt might play in causing unhealthy, harmful, stale, and inauthentic behaviors.

I am so glad you are here! I work from a person-centered approach to assist my client in finding their desire to break down the challenges that need to be addressed and to empower each and every person to find their courage to believe in their worth and, their strength. This means our work together will be conversation based. There are techniques and approaches that won’t feel like you are being put under a microscope, but hopefully validated and heard. My goal is to help others think outside the typical, to be creative and see things and obstacles from a different perspective.

Let’s Talk Food & Mood. Often times we find ourselves in a constant state of overwhelm. Work, kids, relationships, finances, loss and bereavement are contributing factors. Would you consider yourself an emotional or stress eater? Science has proven that unhealthy food choices and erratic meal patterns create digestive issues which deplete the serotonin levels in the brain. This is a direct correlation to mood swings, anxiety, depression, brain fog, headaches and sadness. Consider contacting me for a free consultation today. It’s not about what you fill your plate with, it’s what you fill your mind with that will create change.

I have over 15 years of experience in the field of mental health and integrated holistic approaches. As a child. I was interested in the mind, medicine, and alternative healing. I was eager to learn about these topics and devoured myself in literature on these topics. Very spiritually driven as a child, I began my lifelong path of helping others. From a very young age I understood that the mind, body and soul are connected.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
