This includes the use of a play therapy room for work with children and, if you request, taking a specifically Christian focus in counseling.
Are you or your child struggling with relationships, grief, depression, or anxiety? Do you need direction as you navigate a difficult life circumstance? Change is possible, there is hope, and I'd love to help.

I get it, you’re busy! Between work, family obligations, and errands, you barely have time to breathe, let alone time to care for yourself. You feel overwhelmed and find yourself wondering “Is this the life I signed up for?” You spend all of your time caring for others and you constantly put yourself last. You feel like no one sees you.

These are some of the most common issues we help clients overcome. You have the capacity to heal and grow, although sometimes it's helpful to have professional assistance to process our experiences, learn how to listen inward, and become self-empowered.

I use play therapy which is a form of psychotherapy using play to address mental, emotional, and behavioral concerns.
Life continuously throws curve balls and coping can be difficult when you are a child and are not in direct control of your environment and situations. Sometimes children need someone to sit with and help process so many complicated emotions, feelings, and thoughts. I appreciate empowering the clients I meet with and I believe in the transformative value of having a listening ear. I want to be that person for your child and encourage them to shine through all of it. I believe your child can be a fierce light in this world despite their circumstances.

I am passionate about helping children who are in families going through the tough stuff. I believe children learn and heal best through play. I also enjoy working with adolescents, families, and individual adults. I believe we were created to live in connection with others. The nature of sharing our burdens and hardships with another human who is listening and showing empathy is healing in itself. It is my goal in therapy to create a safe space where you feel heard. We are not promised a life free of hardships but we can journey through it together.

Play therapy is most important to me, I believe that play is the way that children express themselves and make sense of their on world and begin to heal though their therapy play experiences.
My personal philosophy regarding therapy is to focus on the family unit and meet each individual member of the family where they are and treat them as an important part of the therapy. Parents often call me and state they need help for their child and my first response is to treat the child but consider the whole family unit as a part of the therapy treatment plan. Meeting the individual needs of the client is of the utmost importance.

I use experiential, art, and play therapy, along with parental participation, to help children express themselves and make sense of their own unique worlds.
My approach to therapy involves focusing on the family unit, meeting each individual family member where they’re at while treating them as an important part of the therapeutic process. I do this by treating each family member equally and with compassion. I often get calls from parents asking me to help their child and my response is always the same… “Let's work together to help your kiddo.” Studies show that when parents are involved, kids recover from trauma significantly faster.

I am an LPC and Registered Play Therapist with an Attachment based approach working with clients from 13-70+ years old utilizing attachment-based interventions.
Our first relationships are the foundation on which we build all future relationships. If our foundation is shaking, unreliable, or scary we develop a sense of disconnectedness or that we are in some way lacking. This feeling of vulnerability leads us to act in ways we don’t understand. Some may find themselves being overly clingy/controlling for fear that they may be left alone. Some have self-doubt leading to Anxiety, Depression, or addiction. While others shut themselves off from the world to protect themselves. We all have needs and it’s okay to have them met but how we do that can be more destructive than helpful.

Play Therapy

Who is play therapy for?

Play therapy is generally targeted to children between the ages of 3 and 11 who have social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. Play therapy has also been found helpful for children who have experienced physical or emotional abuse or witnessed atrocities. Play therapy is also often recommended for children who are undergoing major medical procedures or who are suffering from chronic illness; many children’s hospitals are equipped to offer play therapy on-site. Play therapy is also sometimes used for adults; creative writing, music, and art are expressive forms that can all be adapted for therapeutic purposes.

Why do people need play therapy?

Children often do not have the language skills or words to know or to express what is troubling them. Yet they often spontaneously draw or use playthings to depict scenarios that reflect problems in their everyday life. Play therapy provides children with an array of objects and play situations to act out their feelings or experiences so that therapists can get a clear picture of what children might be struggling with and help them find solutions. In addition, play therapists are skilled at helping children understand their inner experience and find words for them, necessary steps toward helping children learn to control their own behavior and come up with solutions to problems they encounter.

What happens in play therapy?

A child enters a comfortable playroom where they are free to choose the objects they want to play with. The play therapist will typically observe how they play with the toys—whether a sandbox, puppets, dolls and action figures, trucks, costumes, drawing and painting materials, or more—because such play provides clues to a child’s family and social relationships, difficulties they are encountering in the world, and what going on inside themselves. Sometimes the therapist may ask the child to use the play objects to tell a story about their family. Using the same instruments of play, therapists can help children discover more advantageous ways of thinking and behaving.

What kinds of problems do play therapists treat?

Play therapy can help children who display destructive or self-destructive impulses; children who seem angry, sad, or fearful; children who experience frequent social, emotional, family, or school difficulty. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, who are regularly exposed to family conflict, or who have been physically or emotionally abused. Play therapy can help children who are perpetrators of bullying as well as those who are targets of bullying. It helps children learn to identify their feelings, to express them in constructive ways, and to regulate them so they can get on with the business of development.

How long does play therapy last?

Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and they usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Each session is tailored to the individual child and the kinds of problems they are struggling with. Play that is highly repetitive often indicates a problem requiring further exploration. Therapists typically measure progress through session-to-session changes in play behavior.
