Hello, my name is Amanda Vanlaningham, LPCC, LIMFT and I am a professional counselor and family therapist. I have experience in working with families, adults and individuals in the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, grief, and PTSD since 2014. I strive to meet my clients where they are as well as supporting them on their journey to reaching their personal goals through skill building, insight, and increasing self-awareness.

If you don't feel comfortable in traditional talk therapy, you may have a different learning style that deserves respect. There are four main learning styles: visual, auditory, reading/writing and kinesthetic, which requires physical interaction with the environment. If you are a visual person or need more engagement, then art therapy may be the best fit for you. Art Therapy is a method of self-expression that creates a safe and nonjudgmental space. The focus is on the process of creating and the meaning you bring to your art. No artistic talent is required. I offer telehealth (virtual) services to children, adolescents and adults.

I have worked extensively with children and adolescent development, trauma and grief, pastoral care and spiritual abuse/recovery, women’s issues, gender transitioning, depression, anxiety, as well as major life transitions. I enjoy working with a diverse population and helping individuals find creative outlets that encourage confidence and empowerment within themselves.

I love helping people and I come with a very laid-back approach in wanting to help you where you're at, right now. We'll get to the messy stuff, and we'll work through it, but let's calm the storm Right Now. Divorce is considered to be one of the most stressful life events that an individual experiences during their lifetime, especially when children are involved. I am a forensically trained clinical psychologist and I conduct parenting plan evaluations (formerly called child custody evaluations) throughout the state of Ohio. I also have been qualified as an expert in forensic psychology and I have experience providing expert testimony in Ohio and Maryland. I also provide psychological evaluations, including for ADHD. I offer practical and individualized treatment recommendations to assist you in helping to reach your full potential.

This may come as a result of not knowing how to navigate injury, experiencing a lack of playing time, an overall lack of confidence, or frustration at the repetitiveness of the process. You aren't someone who struggles with motivation, just someone who needs coaching as much on the brain game as the rest of the game.

My approach to therapy is guided by the principles of the social work profession including empathy, unconditional positive regard (all people have strengths and inherent worth), self-efficacy (people can make their own decisions), and self-determination (people have what it takes to do what’s best for them). I draw on CBT (the relationship between thoughts and feelings and how changes in thoughts impact mood); Motivational Interviewing (strengthening motivation to make the changes you want to make); and person-centered therapies (uncovering and highlighting your strengths and using your strengths to help navigate life’s lemons).
