Your family is deserving of repair and becoming bonded and whole.
Are you looking to go beyond the surface and deep dive to discover the root of your suffering and struggles that you are facing? Are you needing to integrate pieces of your life story and make sense of something that has left you disjointed, disillusioned or trapped? Perhaps you are ready or feeling a need to create space to unfold some of the painful material that keeps you in perpetuating cycles or patterns that have been difficult to manage and break.

I work with individuals who may be struggling with depression and trauma related to past relationships be it family or significant other relationships.
As a counselor, and more specifically a counselor with over three decades of experience, and my aim is simply to help people. My MSW (Master of Social Work) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Additionally, I obtain my Independent License in Social Work, and I can supervise other licensed social workers (LISW-S). I serve to help all people reach their goals in healthy ways. Counseling is not just something I do for an income, it is who I am, for I have a "spirit of counsel" that directs what I do inside & outside the counseling setting. I didn't really choose to be a counselor; it is more like I was called to counsel.

By providing evidence-based therapy with the opportunity to integrate faith-based skills, we can use modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Solution-Focused Therapy, to help you navigate emotional intensity, process trauma, engage in your creativity and develop practical tools for balance and self-empowerment.
Desmond Tutu once said, “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” For deep feelers and highly sensitive individuals, the world can feel overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally intense—especially after trauma or hardship. You may have felt “too much” your whole life, carrying emotions deeply and processing the world in a way others don’t always understand. I specialize in working with highly sensitive people and deeply feeling individuals, as well as those who want to increase their emotional insight and coping.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
