My team and I help individuals and couples. Our ideal client is someone who's interested in both healing and growth, who is goal oriented, and knows that how we make sense of things is fundamental. The symptoms about which we suffer are also an invitation to remember what we couldn't handle so that we heal and grow. I'm best suited to treating you where you're stuck, be it physical (like chronic pain, auto-immune), mental (like anxiety), emotional (like depression), relational (partners, children, parents, people you work with), and spiritual (like alienation).

My ideal client is someone who feels genuinely ready to embrace the challenging yet profoundly rewarding work of therapy. They understand that while therapy is not always easy, it offers meaningful and transformative benefits. This client recognizes that they are in control of their own life and that my role is to serve as a supportive guide and sounding board. My goal is to assist them in navigating their journey toward their desired outcomes, respecting their autonomy throughout the process.

My ideal patient comes with an open mind to participate in talk therapy and narrative therapy. Ready to start a process - not necessarily eager to engage but wanting to make a change. They are sick and tired of being sick and tired.

You want to feel better and do better in your life, and now, perhaps more than ever, you need someone – someone REALLY helpful – “in your corner” to help you turn things around. I’m willing and able to do just that. Together, we can do this: I use a range of solution-focused approaches: treatments that work (CBT, DBT, and whatever else works). We’ll figure out exactly how you’ve “gotten here,” plan a way out, and I’ll guide you along the way…as we activate your strengths and your inner resources to live a better life. I work with adults, teens, and families and I’m available immediately to give you the help you need and deserve.

Having either been through challenges or currently existing in crisis, my clients want to stop merely surviving and instead begin thriving. They see the way things are, and they are no longer satisfied with it. My clients seek understanding, internal peace, and personal growth. They need help clarifying their goals and identifying the methods by which to achieve them. They want to live a life based on their personal values, uninhibited by mental health challenges or relational struggles.

By interweaving different types of therapy, we collaborate towards your goals in a way that's effective and respectful of your time, energy and money. Each session can be useful - I track this carefully by asking for feedback and by giving choices on how we work together. The time in-between sessions also is used - through practice 'homework' we choose individually, as a couple or as a family, or through observation/thinking. This helps us to identify what helps you to change or restrains you from change - we can then work together from an attitude of curiosity rather than "shoulds".

I believe that therapy is most effective when there is a warm, supportive relationship between the therapist and child or teen. Does your child suffer from anxiety, trouble getting along with peers, depression, or behavioral problems? Therapy can help you child strengthen and learn new skills to address these concerns.

You may be experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety: from the demands around you to what’s going on inside of you. I can help. Together, we can explore ways to feel more settled and “in control” – in general. Or maybe you need help with something more specific, like social anxiety, managing “a life transition,” or healing from trauma. We’ll put our heads together: to understand the roots of the trouble, empowering you to move forward – skillfully and with confidence. I focus on “treatments that work” (CBT, DBT, mindfulness, etc). But – together – we’ll find what works for you.

Our broad goal––of course––is “the end of unnecessary suffering.” Sound about right? While we all strive for this, I specialize in helping folks with a very-unique kind of suffering: OCD. I can tell you that few people understand the pain and complexity of OCD—(even most therapists). I will listen intently to your unique story. Just know that I can introduce you to an arsenal of tools that can help: mindfulness, ERP (exposure and response prevention) and on and on. Yes, thoughts can be “sticky.” But––with hard work––if (or when) those thoughts come back around…they can be as quiet & as harmless as a yellow post-it.

I have a concentration of clients among college age students, and young adults. I specialize in eating disorders, and related issues. I also have a strong background in the performing arts, and see a significant number of creative clients. For twelve years I worked in a college counseling center. This has afforded me the opportunity to work with students who struggle with the concerns of people in their late teens, early twenties: depression; anxiety; ADD; OCD; substance abuse (as well as the more common issues surrounding living away from home, roommates, academic rigor, awaking sexual identity, etc.)

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my practice. By creating a space of curiosity and non-judgment, I seek to develop strong relationships with my patients and work along side them to navigate difficult times. My practice is collaborative and relational with a balance between skill-building that relies on a cognitive behavioral approach and strong attention to the therapeutic relationship. I offer a transparent approach in both brief and long-term therapy. PLEASE BE AWARE I DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE OPEN AFTER SCHOOL, EVENING OR WEEKEND APPOINTMENT TIMES (November, 2018).

Obesity Therapists

Can obesity be a cause of depression and anxiety?

Yes. It can be stressful and debilitating to carry excess weight. Many people make inaccurate assumptions about people who are overweight. This stigma may lead individuals to feel badly about themselves, decreasing their self-esteem, or leading to feelings of worthlessness. An association between obesity and depression is well-established.

When should an individual seek treatment for obesity?

When obesity, or the feelings it causes, creates a disruption in your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Examples include avoiding social situations due to anxiety, an inability to participate in family life as a result of health problems, or poor performance at work due to low self-esteem or other concerns.

Are there specific medications for weight loss?

There are several prescription drugs that can help with weight loss, including semaglutide and phentermine. These drugs reduce appetite and must be prescribed by a physician. Professionals will suggest lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, before turning to drugs, which have side effects and typically are prescribed only for a short duration. Many people regain weight after taking weight loss drugs if they have not made significant lifestyle changes.

What is body positivity?

Body positivity is a cultural movement that promotes the acceptance of bodies of all sizes and types, rather than those that conform to societal ideals of beauty. It places self-worth, self-acceptance, and an appreciation for one’s body as goals to achieve a happier, healthier attitude about oneself and others, focusing on who a person is rather than what they look like.
