I bring years of experience working with children as young as 3 with play therapy, and as young as 93! My practice has organically moved to working with children, teens, and their parents, and I love it! I am comfortable using all modes of therapy and have found the most successful for children and teens is CBT, DBT, ERP and positive psychology (for parents too). However, I truly believe the most important requirement is for a connection to be established between therapist and client. I pride myself on being able to connect with so many clients leading to their successes. I look forward to meeting and helping you too!

Life can be incredibly difficult, complex, and, at times, confusing. It can also be rewarding, fulfilling, and enlightening. My role as a psychologist is to help you better understand yourself and, in so doing, equip you with the skills and insight needed to live your life in a way that is rich and meaningful, whatever that looks like to you. Using the collaborative treatment plan LifeMaps, we will work together at a pace that is comfortable while ensuring you reach your goals. I am a Black woman, the daughter of immigrants, and an LGBTQIA+ ally, and all of these identities deeply inform my clinical work.

Your child's racing thoughts, nervous stomach and pounding heart is not going away. They are stuck in worried thoughts and behaviors that scare you both. You've read books, talked to friends and googled about anxiety, OCD and anger. It's not helping. Maybe situations like divorce or peer drama have taken a toll on their self esteem. Your once happy kid seems to have lost their confidence. You both want to see their self esteem rise again to feel stronger and more secure in who they are. It can feel overwhelming with so many therapy choices. How do you know you are choosing the best help for your child and your family?

Have you ever wondered why you think, feel, and act in the ways that you do? Are you interested in developing a greater understanding of yourself and learning strategies to help you feel better? If you answered ‘yes’ to either of these questions, you’re in the right place. Being curious about ourselves and others is a central focus of therapy. In gaining greater understanding and compassion for ourselves we can change our patterns of thinking, reduce distressing emotions, and interact in healthier ways with the world around us.

My ideal client is trying to understand not only the root causes that created a less than optimal life functioning emotionally, socially, occupationally, academically, or intrafamilially, but the actual cognitive behavioral steps to remedy the problem. I believe most problems we encounter in our everyday lives can be improved upon and transformed into a life we have chosen.

Sometimes all that stands in the way of your happiness and peace of mind is the way you think about things. It's remarkable how our own thoughts can work against us creating anxiety, depression and an overall feeling of being trapped or stuck. There is great relief in the realization that the happiness you truly want and deserve is actually within your control! Whether your goal is diminishing your fears, gaining a better understanding of why you feel so sad, finally having the healthy relationship you have been yearning for, reducing stress, finding balance, or finally being able to answer that question, "What will make me happy?"

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
