In order to meet the needs of my clients, I blend techniques and frameworks from CBT, DBT, psychodynamic psychotherapy, existentialist psychology, and narrative therapy.
My work focuses on the roles of culture, family of origin, and society in my clients' lives. I am passionate about helping my clients process the interaction between identity formation, emotional distress, and the first- and second-generation immigrant experience. Likewise, I help my clients gain skills to cope with stressors secondary to life transitions, such as those related to dating/marriage, relocation, professional career changes, and voluntary childlessness. I have particular experience in working with identity formation and healing for the AAPI immigrant (first and second generation).

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Trauma-Focused Therapy (TF-CBT) are some modalities to address the concerns.
Are you feeling "stuck," indecisive, depressed, or anxious? We all face life difficulties that limit our skills and tools for managing our emotions, reducing symptoms, building relationships, and having a sense of self-worth. Understanding, learning what is happening in your brain, and practicing skills and coping mechanisms are vital to living a worthwhile life. I have spent the last few years assisting clients, building their toolbox, understanding the emotional system, and improving their lives.

Therefore, I tailor my approach to fit the needs of each client using a blend of CBT, DBT, ACT and other supportive therapies.
Over the past 18+ years, my role as a therapist, has been to be a guide. One who is taking you on a journey to emotional well-being and discovery of your authentic self. This self is the part of you not defined by your job, function or role. It's the blending of all your skills, talents and wisdom. Embracing your authentic self allows you to break free from roles other people may have placed you in. This means that what you say in life aligns with not only your words and thoughts but also your actions. Not being one's own authentic self can be at the root of anxiety, depression, frustration, anger and even relationships problems.

I also use a DBT approach with many clients, this approach helps with developing mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
Are you finding yourself constantly overwhelmed by anxiety? Are the symptoms of your lingering anxiety impacting the quality of your life? I know exactly what you are experiencing: the pounding chest, tightened muscles, clenched jaw, and on/off cold sweats. People often suffer from anxiety for many years without seeking treatment. I believe that holistic and evidence based practices can reduce anxiety and panic, and I look forward to teaching you tools to help take your life back. I also work with LGBTQ couples who are struggling with a variety of concerns like sexual/intimacy issues, communication, codependency, and infidelity.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
