Life's difficulties can be overwhelming at times. Reaching out for help is a courageous (positive) first step. I have over 39 years experience as a psychotherapist specializing in marriage and couples therapy, sex therapy, and mental health counseling, working with individuals, and couples. Blame is counter therapeutic and it is not allowed to become a focus of attention in treatment. Rather, emphasis is placed on developing strengths to overcome or manage problems more effectively. A main goal of therapy is helping people identify and access their strengths, as well as empowering them to lead more satisfying and healthier lives.
My theoretical orientation comprises cognitive-behavior therapy, systems therapy, person-centered therapy, and Adlerian therapy. During treatment I focus on the relationships people have and emphasize the belief that one is in control of one's life. The focus is on achieving maximum mental health and developing effective and adaptive coping strategies.
I utilize a relational therapy approach to address the full range of relationship and intimacy issues for both heterosexual and same-sex couples including infidelity, affairs, and sexual disorders. Childhood sexual abuse; depression; anxiety disorders; grief and loss; and the full range of mental health issues, problems and concerns are also treated.
