Life has a way of letting us know when it is time to reach out. Are you feeling overwhelmed, burdened, stressed, and ready for change, but not sure where to begin? Do you feel you have more to offer, but feel stuck? Then counseling is the right setting to have a conversation that may open doors to problem solving and provide tools for guidance. Growing up working in the family restaurant and being active as a student athlete, I didn't have the tools to manage the stress around me. While I was helping others to perform as a personal trainer, I knew I needed to become a counselor to help in a more wholistic way.

Lee Clausen, M.S., P.L.M.H.P., P.L.A.D.C. C.P.S.W.S., began his career in mental health as a Certified Peer Support & Wellness Specialist and he still believes in the principals espoused by Shery Mead in differentiating between learning versus helping, relationships versus individuals, and hope versus fear. Ultimately, mental health support is about understanding the perspective of another; a shared meaning between client and counselor emerges that allows the client to understand the value and meaning in their present relationships and how those relationships allow a new set of possibilities to emerge through a sense of community.

You work hard. You do your best. Yet you are still struggling to find happiness, peace, and meaning in your life. It's not your fault (really, it's not), but there are somethings you can do to make it better. There are ways to reduce your anxiety and depression, and to feel happy again. You can have meaningful relationships, an enjoyable worklife, and have fun again. You can be the person you want to be.

As a licensed psychologist I provide counseling for adults dealing with many issues including depression, anxiety, alcohol and drug use, relationship concerns, stress management, or coping with everyday life problems. Waitlist for new clients
Taking accountability by reaching out to set up an appointment can seem daunting at times, but it is one of the many that will help you along the way in your therapeutic journey.
It's not a sales pitch when I say that I genuinely believe we all could benefit from seeing a therapist. It can be difficult to reach out for help when we need it, especially if we have been down the road of asking for help and not getting the help we need. Life simply is too difficult to go at it alone and therapy is a great way to begin the process of tackling what life throws at us head on. So whether you struggle with trauma, balancing life, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, etc. let's take the first steps into pursuing a healthier, growth oriented life.

My goal is to assist you in experiencing a renewed sense of hope and purpose. Life transitions make it easy to feel left behind and unsure of how to navigate feelings of anxiety, depression, and grief. Relationship issues can leave us questioning if we have what it takes. Whether you're wrestling with broken relationships, stressed out from juggling multiple responsibilities, discouraged by life's challenges, or experiencing a crisis of faith that has left you searching for answers, I believe that we can work together to bring your life back into balance.

People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons. Usually, people are experiencing a moderate level of discomfort in their lives and have noticed a toll on their work or school perfor mance and in their relationships. Beginning therapy can be scary for some as they are showing a willingness to face tough topics, but for others, it is a huge relief to finally be taking action to move in a different direction.

As hu mans, we spend years feeding into our own cognitive distortions.
I've spent most of the last decade working with children of all ages and their parents tackling concerns and frustrations related to Autism Spectrum Disorder, Reactive Attachment Disorder, ADHD, depression and anxiety symptoms. I enjoy helping families better understand each other through increased communication, clear agreements, and understanding each other's love languages and learning styles.

I have many different tools and therapy methods that I have learned over the years and I am available to aid you in being the best you can be.
My heart as a counselor is to meet my clients where they are. I believe that we are all on a journey of growth with a desire to improve our emotional health. Every once in a while we get to a place where we feel stuck and sometimes being stuck is painful. That is where a qualified therapist can come into the picture and help you identify goals and process past hurts. I strive to provide a safe place where my clients can work through these issues free of judgement.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
