Let's create a safe and nonjudgmental space where we can uncover your strengths, cultivate self-compassion, and empower you to rewrite your narrative.
I focus on helping navigate the wild twists and turns of life, whether it's healing the caverns of complex trauma, revisiting childhood shenanigans, or riding the ADHD rollercoaster of executive dysfunction. We will use a variety of tools on our journey, including ACT, DBT, Internal Family Systems (IFS), narrative therapy, and Imagery Rehearsal Therapy. Don't worry, though – I promise to keep the jargon to a minimum and sprinkle in a healthy dose of humor along the way.

From play therapy, to mindfulness, from cbt, to narrative therapy, I blend traditional methods with modern and eclectic styles to keep my patients engaged and excited for each session.
What do you think of therapy? Does it intimidate you? In your thoughts, do you think the therapist is an out of touch, stodgy, judgmental person prying into sensitive topics or boring you with monotone lectures? Could therapy actually be fun? Or something you look forward to? What if therapy didn’t have to be scary or always serious but a time you set aside for yourself which you actually enjoy?

I am an avid advocate for immigrants and those who English isn't their first language. I am also fluent in Haitian Kreyol. My therapeutic approach is based on the needs of the client. I believe that there is not just one therapeutic approach to fit the needs of every client. We are all different in our own unique and beautiful ways. I find that working together with the client collaboratively, will help us find a compatible therapeutic theory. Which will help the needs of the client, to be met with trust and patience.

My practice focusses on helping caregivers, adults, and the elderly. Finding psychological care for seniors can be difficult. Finding support for caregivers can be just as hard. If you are either, then I am here to support you through the loneliness, frustration, anxiety, depression, and major life changes that come with time; and to work on the rifts that damage these important, life-long relationships. Caregiving sessions are for anyone caring for someone of any age or disability. Adult / Elderly therapy is for anyone addressing later-life challenges, especially once their children have left to have families of their own.

I am a developmental psychologist and a licensed marriage and family therapist. I specialize in children, adolescents, parenting, co-parenting, and family systems. I believe that each member of a family impacts every other member, so when issues arise in one member, each member is affected. I place a high importance on communication within a family to help them to improve family dynamics. Issues in an individual or a family can arise at any time, so clients will graduate therapy with the skills they need to conquer future stressors.

What is a “mindful parent,” exactly? A mindful parent is the one that asks: how do I know that what I am doing is preparing my child mentally and emotionally for an increasingly complex future? How do I optimize the relationship I have with them right now to better ensure they become an adult that is empowered not entitled, self-reliant and compassionate, curious, and competent in a world of increasing artifice? Those are great questions and, luckily, we have the answers. Developmental research has identified ways you can enhance the parent-child relationship to prepare your child for a more secure, autonomous adulthood.

With over 20 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker, I work with clients from ages 12 - adult. I provide individual, couples and family counseling. I use different elements of many therapeutic models, and I will work with you to design a treatment plan that addresses your individual needs. My approach is interactive, working at a pace that is comfortable for you. Seeking help can be a daunting task, and oftentimes it is difficult to reach beyond the problem and put your trust in someone to work through the process. It takes courage to attempt change. But, like everything, it starts with taking the first step.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
