Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, worried, or depressed? Life can be very challenging at times! With the right help and guidance however, we can find our way back towards emotional well-being and resolve the issues that burden us. As valedictorian of both my undergraduate and graduate degree program, professional excellence and effective treatment is a priority for me in my work with children, adolescents, and adults.

There is a quote I have always loved. It reads, "When we are no longer able to change a situation- we are challenged to change ourselves"- Viktor E. Frankl. I see life's challenges as opportunities for personal growth and transformation. Many times it seems that counseling is explored only as a last resort after all other attempts at making changes or finding symptom relief have fallen short. Whether you are looking to manage and cope with a specific issue such as trauma or anxiety, are having relationship issues, are feeling stuck in general, or are looking for a deeper level of self-understanding, I can be alongside you to help.

When I was serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine, the comfort of someone speaking my language was immeasurable. Speaking your language is important to me. Whether it’s through humor, warmth, empathy, or directness, I strive to make therapy relieving rather than another foreign experience. When therapists discuss what type of therapy they do, is it just another set of abbreviations with absolutely no meaning? Let me be your translator. I deeply value education, so if you are unfamiliar with any of the therapies I list below, I will explain extensively as to how they work within session. If you like learning, I'm your person.

Life is hard and unpredictable, and we all have struggles within ourselves, with relationships, and with directions in life. As a result, we may experience anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, or simply feeling lost. The recognition of our shared human condition is what motivated me to become a counselor. I bring a wealth of life and professional experiences to the counseling practice with a 20-year career in biotech and business. I believe my life experiences as a parent and professional afford me the broad perspectives to connect with clients and to facilitate personal growth.

I know you're having a hard time, or you wouldn't be scrolling through these listings. Maybe you're feeling depressed, anxious, or just struggling to make sense of what's going on internally. Maybe you find yourself wanting to make a change in your life and you don't know where to begin to do that! Maybe you're struggling with the relationships in your life. The great news is, you don't have to do this alone! With some support (and a little humor), we can navigate this together.

I find it not only fascinating, but beautiful to see my clients rewrite the narrative of their lives through their healing process.
Most will experience times in life when it seems everything is upside down and they're just hanging on. Sometimes it's just hard identifying the source of your pain. In either case, reaching out to a skilled therapist makes all the sense in the world. I work closely with clients affected by depression, anxiety, trauma, relational issues, grief, loss and racial injustice indignities. My focus is working with women through transitions in life, individuals desiring self-esteem development, and couples who want to heal and transform their relationship into a richer and more connected union.

I am EMDR trained, IFS informed, and offer Mindfulness, Narrative, CBT and Christian based therapy.
Everyone needs help sometimes. We use the resources, strategies, and supports that we have to work through the difficult times in life, but can reach the point where we need something more to face the challenges that we're up against. If you have reached a point where the burden has become too great, know that you're not alone. My goal is to walk with you, offering hope, healing and strategies to face the challenges that you’re up against. You are worthy of more, and there is no better time to seek help.

I offer a blend of person-centered therapy, narrative, cognitive behavioral techniques, exposure & EMDR tailored to your unique needs.
Sometimes it can be incredibly difficult to cope with the stress and complications that exist in day-to-day life. There are deadlines, pressures, demands—on top of the regular responsibilities, which can feel isolating and overwhelming. Therapy can be a great tool in offering people a safe place to not only process and learn to heal from their greatest difficulties, but learn skills and tools in navigating their stressors outside of sessions, whether you're facing major life transitions, or coping with anxiety, depression, self-esteem or body image issues, trauma, or even family difficulties.

I believe our identities are shaped by our narrative, whether individually or culturally, and part of my job as a therapist is to collaborate with you as we co-investigate and re-author your narrative.
Change is powerful. We all have the capacity to change, however many times people are overwhelmed by the unknown. I believe that you have the resources and problem-solving skills to affect change. Through the use of collaborative questioning I can aid in discovering solutions to your concerns. I believe change is always occurring and relatively small changes can lead to large changes. My systems base approach encourages positive thinking, for example what is working in your life, to establish therapeutic goals based on issues that are important.

I have extended training in emotionally focused therapy, Internal Family Systems, and narrative therapy, including an advanced counseling certificate in trauma and abuse from The Allender Center.
I am a passionate and dedicated counselor who longs to see healing and redemption in the lives of the wounded and the broken. My clients are those who have experienced trauma, abuse, and suffering and consequently have seen the affects of their suffering result in anxiety, depression, addictions, eating disorders, personality disorders, mood disorders, and more. My clients often have little awareness of just how resilient and courageous they are, but enduring and surviving trauma is not an easy thing. It is my greatest honor to walk alongside survivors as they fight for hope and healing and discover just how strong they are.

Understanding ourselves deeply allows us to overcome our challenging experiences, create a cohesive narrative, and define who we are.
Overwhelming thoughts or negative beliefs about ourselves can keep us trapped in our minds, and when our inner critic is in control, we can go down spirals that seem to cement our beliefs of not being good enough, lovable enough, successful enough, etc. You may find that these harsh thoughts feel out of your control and defining, leaving you emotionally stressed and defeated. My approach to therapy is to help my clients take back control and make sense of their story (past and present) to live a meaningful life that feels fulfilling, instead of confusing, conflicting, and stressful.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
