I use various types of treatment modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, brief therapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance commitment therapy or a family systems approach depending on what my client is needing.
My client is likely in crisis, is in severe emotional pain or is facing a dilemma. This person is needing guidance, emotional support and a safe place to explore their struggles. My client wants to learn more about himself or herself and seeks to travel along their own journey and, along the way, discover his/her own strengths and inner resources. People learn more by discovering something themselves (internally) than by someone telling him what he or she should do (externally).

Whether you are in a marriage that is struggling, having a problem personally with substances, or just need some help clearing out the clutter in your life, my approach to counseling comes from many different counseling theories. I believe that it is important to focus on the here and now, emphasizing future actions, behaviors, and thoughts, rather than deeply exploring the past. While the past has brought us where we are today, how you believe today and how you act today is of more importance. I believe in being directive and intentional in all aspects of therapy.

Reaching out for support takes strength and courage. I respect this, and my aim is to create a calm, inviting atmosphere where a deep sense of trust can grow between client and therapist. I believe that pain shared is pain lessened and that people can and do recover from issues that have been troubling them for years. I have found that many people enter therapy not because of a complex mental health issue but because of a general feeling of life not being what they would like it to be. Let me be a catalyst of change for you.

Parents will develop the skills and strategies they need to support their child's development and well-being, including positive parent-child relationships, effective parenting skills, addressing underlying issues, and improving family dynamics.
My ideal client would be parents or caregivers seeking treatment for their children with behavioral, emotional, and social problems, such as ODD, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other typical childhood issues. These clients would be interested in a parent training format for the treatments, indicating a willingness to actively participate in the therapy process and work collaboratively with the therapist. Additionally, the ideal client would be open to utilizing technology for teletherapy sessions, as my services are presented in an online therapy platform.

I offer a broad and deep set of trainings which in a very practical way help people grow: emotionally, behaviorally, spiritually. Potential clients will find evidence based methods, flexibility of approach, and a willingness to listen collaboratively. I have a passion to assist you in overcoming adversity and facing your mental health concerns. Empathy, open-mindedness, and communication are my core values. My path to counseling began very young through my own personal experience with loss of life, which lead me to the path to helping others. I understand that missing our loved ones and being depressed is normal, and the key to grieving is to find a way to form a new relationship with the one we lost. In addition, through my collegiate student-athlete experience I understand the delicate balance of being a student-athlete, including the pressures that come along with it.

There are times we could all use some extra support, someone to listen, and feedback from someone who can approach our lives with a little bit of objectivity. This is where talking to someone like me can be a good option. My job is to provide you with a safe place where you can talk without the fear of being judged or criticized. I will listen. Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
