I use a research-proven approach that helps clients practice self acceptance and becoming fully present in the moment, so individuals realize their ability to maintain the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Are you struggling with finding a purpose? Is it difficult for you to sustain motivation? Are you finding yourself in a losing battle with substance abuse? Do you struggle with a traumatic experience that is overwhelming you to the point that it's difficult to function daily? It's the unspoken fear that holds you back from your full potential.

My work with couples and individuals is about providing a safe, inclusive, and comfortable context to release challenging feelings and begin exploring ways to become less stuck.
Life’s challenges often feel overwhelming. Whether these challenges are encountered in pursuit of a healthier lifestyle, in trying to connect with your dearest loved ones, or in coping with a variety of big and small setbacks, there exists a pathway to success and happiness within you that is yet untapped. With all of the outside pressures coming from our school/job, family, romantic and friend relationships it can be difficult to establish our own needs. Let me help you build a healthy relationship with yourself by unraveling those things that tie you down and re-creating a life of intention and connection.

My passion and specialty are using evidence-based treatment, an up-to-date understanding of the brain, and a safe, healing therapeutic relationship to help adolescents and adults who suffer from sleep issues, depression, anxiety, and sexual addiction and those struggling in their marriages and intimate relationships or moving through major life transitions.
Life is difficult. You can be coasting along, only to wake up and find you just don’t have the same kind of joy and excitement that you used to. Activities and being with people you used to enjoy now just feel dull and lifeless or fill you with anxiety and, no matter what you do, nothing changes. You have difficulty falling asleep and, when you finally do, you wake up feeling exhausted and unrested. Your relationships may often be defined by constant fighting, insecurity, or lack of connection and excitement. Issues of sexual integrity fill you with shame, and, no matter what you do, you continue to struggle.

You tried to get help before, but all you heard was “just hang in there, it will get better.” Maybe you tried to convince yourself that tomorrow will be a better day. Maybe you hoped your partner would change one day. You cried and protested. You tried to numb your pain and shut down. Other times you turned to something else for a momentary relief. But every time you end up in this dark and lonely place. If you want to connect to others better, to have more meaningful relationships, to grow in self-awareness, I would love to work with you.

Are you tired, worried, or feeling alone? Maybe you're nervous or unsure what more can be done for a relationship you want badly to work. Do you feel frustrated, stuck, or hopeless in patterns you want to change? Do you long for tomorrow to feel different than today? Maybe a confidential space might just be a comfort right now. Wherever you are, it is often a hard thing to need help. It is often harder still to ask for it. I'm glad you're here and hanging on.

When working with individuals, I aim to help them through a collaborative process to understand the underlying issues that are causing them to not live up to their potential. The model which I employ assumes that many of our struggles are connected to conflicts within us of which we are not completely aware. I feel that therapy is most effective when the entire person's personality and history are considered instead of just focusing on current problematic behaviors. My work focuses on recognizing long standing relationship patterns that are troublesome as well as developing a more emotionally stable and adaptive personality.

I believe that the most essential ingredient in therapy is an open and trusting therapeutic relationship.
I work with adults and teens experiencing issues related to depression, anxiety, self-esteem, anger, shame, grief, fear and a range of other symptoms. I join with individuals and couples who struggle with overwhelming stress; have difficulty understanding their emotions and feelings; feel loneliness and isolation; who question their relationship, career or overall life choices; who struggle to find meaning in their lives. We all want to find peace and clarity, and to escape the stream of negative self-talk and self-criticism that churns inside of us. All of us have a fundamental human need to feel connected, accepted and understood.

The clients I serve are often at a crossroads in their life story and unsure of how to close one chapter and begin anew. Clients I enjoy working with recognize that counseling continues outside of the session in self reflection, exploring behavior change, and shifting how we think and relate to ourselves. I find that counseling helps meet goals and needs as diverse as the client, and sometimes goals arise throughout the course of the relationship. No one needs a "good reason" to come to counseling, for the desire to reach out and try will always be sufficient.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
