I use an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from a range of evidence-based practices including cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness and clinical art therapy. Together, we will examine the underpinnings of negative self talk, maladaptive behaviors and emotional dysregulation. We will work to overcome obstacles to personal growth. You will learn to replace ineffective physical and emotional responses to stressors with healthy coping and communication strategies. I provide individual support to adolescents and adults seeking emotional and behavioral well being.

Are you feeling like you have lost yourself? That you are lost and alone. You want to be “on top of things”, but you are exhausted with all of the responsibilities. It feels like you have to be perfect: be the perfect woman, be the perfect mom, be a perfect young adult, have a great career and be healthy. It’s overwhelming! During all of this Chaos, you are certain of this, that you are ready for relief. You’re ready to heal, you’re ready to smile again, you’re ready to enjoy life again, you’re ready to find a career you love.

Have you/your child experienced trauma or adversity that has led to depression, anxiety, self harm, low self-worth, and interpersonal difficulties? You may believe you are "broken" or "unworthy"? You are not alone. Healing and change is always possible. As a DBT, EMDR, and integrative medicine practitioner, I have years of clinical experience helping teens and adults in the psychiatric inpatient and outpatient settings. And, it can be scary to take the first steps and believe your life will get better. In our work together, the goal is to provide you with skills to help be more compassionate and mindful on this path to healing.

My goal is to help clients achieve improved functioning as quickly as possible. I believe the most powerful transformation comes from a combination of techniques to understand and reset non-adaptive patterns, including neurofeedback, other forms of biofeedback, such as heart rate variability, emotional freedom technique (EFT), and a personality assessment I use called the Enneagram, combined with behaviorally-based counseling, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The combination of these techniques provide the foundation for holistically examining issues that stand in the way of a fuller life.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
