Mental health is just as important as physical health to our overall well-being. I am a Limited Licensed Psychologist and a certified trauma specialist as well as a marriage counselor. I can work with you to develop a wide variety of coping skills to help you work towards your goals of living your best life. People enter into a counseling relationship when nothing else seems to be working. Although most people soon make comments such as, “(Counseling) was a lot better than I thought it would be”, few people seek counseling as a first option. More often we seek out techniques that either help us to temporarily avoid (e.g., media, social networking) our anxiety, or we seek temporary shots of pleasure (e.g., alcohol, food, pornography) that make us feel good for a short time. Soon enough we realize that all of these things leave us feeling more hollow and lonely, and that is when we start thinking about counseling.

I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. Reaching out for support often comes during a time of crisis or after living for many years with the weight emotional pain. Bringing people from crisis to hope is the forefront of my practice. The lack of access to quality mental health care for persons of color is real, and mental health needs are at times unmet. My cultural competence through life experience has allowed me to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
