I work with psychotherapy, in a very present way, providing attentive listening, trauma-informed care, helping the client in their search for meaning and emotional processing.
As a psychotherapist, I believe in human interactions as a powerful healing tool. I have been working as a therapist for 30 + years, having started my practice in Brazil, my country of origin, and practicing in the US since 2020. My work is based in Psychodynamic, Jungian Analytical Psychology, and I also provide trauma-informed care using EMDR as a therapeutic tool. My approach is mostly eclectic, meeting the client where they are at, and using evidence-based resources tailored to the client's needs. I see the human life as a journey, full of wonders and hardships, and I feel honored helping someone throughout their unique journey.

My practice is designed to work with people who feel overwhelmed or "stuck" in their current life situation. I begin with the understanding that everyone has struggles from time to time with primary relationships, work situations, financial stressors, unforeseen change of life circumstances or unresolved grief and loss. Common effects are anxiety, unexplained depression or loss of confidence. When these effects spill over into other areas of function, affecting sleep, clear thinking or enjoyment of regular activities, it is time to do some therapeutic "work" to put things in perspective and be able to move forward.

Hi there! My therapeutic approach is all about you. My goal is to make therapy a warm and safe space to help you make the changes you wish to make. I am flexible and will use different types of therapy depending on your needs and preferences. I often use a blend of client-centered, ACT, and psychodynamic therapies. I also often conceptualize using family systems and attachment theory. We will decide at the beginning of our work what will feel like the best fit for you.

I am currently at capacity and not accepting new clients. Are you finding that your life isn't what you envisioned? Are you feeling depleted, anxious, stuck, parenting a challenging child, or wondering who you are? Are you looking for a safe, nurturing environment with a highly skilled practitioner? Especially an authentic person who believes that the process can and should include laughter? Clients are often pleasantly surprised with the wide array of tools and experience I draw on, including guided meditations created based on your preferred images and desired length. I then emailed to you, to access at any time.

I have extensive experience with adults and adolescents with depression, anxiety, social and relationship issues. I am experienced in the fields of addiction and recovery, and also work well with people affected by the substance use of a loved one. I have worked with both adolescents and adults in a variety of settings, including residential treatment, day treatment, schools and outpatient settings. My training allows me to use a variety of approaches, but my first goal is always relationship and trust development, as I believe a good working alliance must begin there.

Hello, I am currently unable to accept new clients! - Psychotherapy is a collaborative, goal-oriented process of talking and experiencing emotions in a welcoming and affirming space. Thoughtfully chosen to meet your individual needs, I integrate an insight-oriented approach with evidence-based skills and behavior-focused therapies (e.g. CBT or DBT). Our sessions will address your current concerns, symptoms, and personal goals as well as explore vulnerabilities from your past to develop a deeper self-awareness. Mindfulness and/or EMDR may be suggested to clients who might benefit from an emotion-focused, body-based treatment.

Counseling is a process, not an end goal; and it’s a process by which challenges can be defined, addressed, and worked on. It’s a process that brings a therapist and a client into safe and confidential relationship built on trust and authenticity. The counselor encourages strength and establishes hope for real change through connection and exploration. We consider choices, challenges, and triumphs together, recognizing that while difficult, change is the vehicle we sometimes need to reach our destination or desired goal.

At one point or another we can all benefit from what therapy has to offer. I commit to creating a compassionate space for you to break from your daily routine and shed the layers no longer serving you. I believe counseling to be a collaborative journey towards growth, adaptation, and healing.

My professional training is in the following evidence-based/informed modalities: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Theraplay, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Parent-Child Psychotherapy, Yoga and body-based treatment strategies, Gestalt Theory, Internal Family Systems and Positive Psychology.
There are many paths to healing. My role as a therapist is to determine the approach that will work best for each client and to create the space for healing to occur. I understand the importance of balancing and integrating the emotional self, the thinking self and the physical self and have tools to intervene in each of these dimensions. I believe that for many, a root cause of suffering lies within the context of intimate relationships and that healing primary relationships can create healing within the self.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
