Despite conventional wisdom, there is no scientific evidence that they are dysfunctions of the mind or brain. Instead, they are personal, spiritual, political, financial, moral, and existential challenges that we all face. They can be very emotionally disruptive, but rest assured, there is nothing wrong with you or your brain. Calling them "mental illnesses" or "disorders" is very misleading and potentially harmful.
