I am a licensed clinical psychologist, specializing in the delivery of time-limited, evidence-based therapies to help you experience relief from feeling of anxiety and/or to increase closeness in your ro mantic relationship.
We choose our partners because the relationship brings us joy, connection, and safety. How do we maintain the good stuff as life gets more complicated? How do we recover from relationship hurts and regain the connection we desire? Whether as a couple or an individual, anxiety and fear can try to limit our choices. Worry can be difficult-to-control. A desire to avoid feeling afraid can lead to our world shrinking. Concern about the ways others evaluate us can make time with others much less satisfying. Together we can find ways to break free, claiming the life you've always wanted.

Stress affects us all in different ways. Short term counseling with cognitive behavior therapy can many times lead to a reduction in problems. I evaluate persons to better identify issues such as children with ADHD, autism, or intellectual disabilities or adults with PTSD and emotional trauma are a focus of evaluation and treatment. I evaluate persons prior to bariatric surgery, for pre-employment and return to work issues, and several court related or forensic issues. The saying 'if you don't test, it's just a guess' is a keystone of my practice.

Waitlist for new clients
Life can become difficult out of nowhere or maybe it feels like no matter what you try it has always been hard. Often times this is due to not having the right skills to be able to navigate through our emotional response to what has happened to us or what we may have done. It is my goal to provide a space for any client to be comfortable enough to open up and not worry about judgment or being heard, I also call my clients out on destructive behaviors or beliefs. I do this because as hu mans we tend to be blind to them and having an unbiased person to do that for us can be extremely beneficial for our growth.

From there, we can look at the many possibilities for your future.
Seems like the world has gone a little crazy lately, right? Have you been feeling on edge, irritable, anxious, or hopeless? Maybe you worry that you can't be yourself because it might make you a target, or maybe you think that there is more bad than good around here. At times like this, I think it's more important than ever to have someone trustworthy to talk to. I may be biased, but there is a pretty good chance you'll find me to be a listening ear who is judgment and agenda free, who wants nothing more than to see you succeed in your goals.

Navigating life isn’t easy. Add being bombarded by anxiety, the effects of trauma, a crazy life transition, or those awful depressive symptoms. Now it feels impossible, right? That’s how I felt at least. Thankfully, I was wrong! As a teenager and adult, therapy has led me down a beautiful path of healing and happiness. It's my belief that you deserve the same. You deserve an abundant life of joy, stability, and adventure, and I’d love nothing more than to help you get there.

I have worked with various populations, with many different views and values, but what I have currently found in this field is that we all want one thing: someone we can trust to be vulnerable with.
Welcome and thank you for visiting my page. My hope for you is that we are able to connect with each other, for me to recognize the challenges you face, and work alongside you to find what it is that you're looking for.

Drawing on my previous experience as a youth pastor, I enjoy working with children, teenagers, and young adults. As a play therapist, I have worked extensively with children who are struggling with ADHD and trauma. I also enjoy working with couples and families, and individuals who struggle with addiction, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues and PTSD. The challenge of parenting sparks my interest and I enjoy using humor, emotion coaching, and intergenerational systemic family theories to illuminate and strengthen the resources that parents already have to offer. I believe that solutions can be found by viewing obstacles as opportunities for repair.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
