I prefer a holistic approach to treatment which, while based in a psychodynamic framework, draws from my specialized training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, attachment based, trauma-informed and mindfulness modalities. I work with adults ranging from young adulthood through end of life, using a culturally-sensitive approach.

I offer a trauma-informed, attachment-based, and anti-oppressive approach to my understanding of healing, incorporating mindfulness and somatic experience into my practice.
Accepting new clients for the summer months, late May - early September. I believe in the healing power of relationships. At its best, therapy can be a place of offering company and witnessing to the parts of you that feel the most alone, fearful, ashamed, and uncertain.

My greatest intention in working with you is to create an environment in which you feel truly seen and heard. I see this as a natural path towards assisting you in learning to witness yourself more regularly and breaking away from patterns of self-abandonment. I aim to help you decondition from disempowering beliefs that may be leading you to make behavioral choices out of fear, anxiety and shame and instead guide you towards being able to behave from a place of authenticity, self-trust, self acceptance, and genuine capacity-all of which ultimately serves to help you experience improved emotional regulation in the long term.

Being a therapist is a true privilege. In the relaxed and safe atmosphere of my office , clients feel free to explore their deepest feelings, dreams, and real lifechallenges. Together, in a spirit of honesty,we laugh,we cry and we problem solve. Most of us want things to change, but we often don't want to change anything. To choose trust not fear, we must first explore the past, not to linger there, but to explain some of our personal choices and current challenges with relationship. With the strength of new awareness and insight, clients move forward in a most positive way.

Hate therapy? I get it. If you are missing out on a sense of peace or feel like you'll burst if something doesn't change soon, however, then it’s worth it to invest in yourself through therapy. Concerns I work with most are: men’s issues (i.e. intimacy), codependency, life transitions (i.e. college, divorce), anxiety, substance use disorders, self esteem/empowerment. No matter what your concern, I'm committed to not pathologizing people. You are not broken! I tailor sophisticated treatment modalities to your needs and pride myself in being present with you during our sessions.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
