The ideal client would finally be open to change and hope to have better interpersonal relationships. This can be a client who struggles with their anxiety, possibly has poor attachment styles, and struggles with holding meaningful relationships (romantic, platonic, familial). Their goals would be identifying healthy boundaries and healthy responses, increasing effective communication skills, and identifying past relationships/present relationships in order to identify patterns/habits.

Accepting new clients now. Hi, I'm Jennifer. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Taking care of everyone and forgetting yourself? Struggling with life changes? Sometimes it's helpful to have a sounding board to help us through these times. By focusing on thoughts that hold you back, we can free you from feeling stuck. I am laid back and supportive, and I work at a speed comfortable for you, respecting your values, beliefs, and goals. My work focuses primarily on treating adults and it is a welcoming space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I do not currently treat children or adolescents.

I enjoy working with others struggling with anxiety, ADHD, depression, confidence, spirituality, relationship issues, and self-worth. I often find myself working with those who are learning how to honor their intuition and develop their true and higher selves. I also enjoy working with clients who are open to alternative therapies. I am a heart-centered and strengths-based therapist who meets clients where they are in life and strives to provide a nurturing environment to allow my clients to grow into the best versions of themselves.

My ideal client would be new to therapy, though motivated to change. I am aware of the challenges that come with seeking therapy and want to be a support to those who are hesitant with the process. Ideally, I would like a client who is self-aware, receptive to feedback, and willing to hold themselves accountable.

The increases in anxiety, depression, and inability to adjust to life's situations and engage in healthy relationships has reached all-time highs since the pandemic and I am here to help you navigate it all. I enjoy working with adolescents (16+), young adults and adults trying to manage life's transitions with a positive mindset; especially when things aren't working out according to plan. We all experience obstacles that increase our self-doubt and cause us to negatively over-think. Let me help you to rewire your anxious thoughts, increase your clarity, make better decisions, and experience more satisfaction in life.

I enjoy working with people who are struggling with substance use, whether they are just beginning to question their use and habits or they have experienced chronic relapse and feel hopeless. I believe part of that process is ensuring they are informed of options available and helping them discover their “why.” I have experience supporting people in identifying their strengths, finding coping skills, and creating measurable, attainable goals. I am skilled at navigating treatment systems/levels of care in Massachusetts. I have experience with medical detoxification protocols and can discuss options for medication-supported treatment.

One of the greatest issues that people face in their lifetime is how to cope with death and loss due to divorce, chronic health issues, and any major life transitions. Your feelings of grief and loss can be more than you can bear. I offer a supportive and nurturing environment so you can understand those feelings, allow them to be expressed in a safe manner, and help you adapt to the realities of your changed life. I also have had the pleasure of working with couples. We can work together in a nonjudgmental environment to help you build deeper connections with yourself and your partner.

People deserve the opportunity to heal, to feel well, and to discover themselves. There are times in our lives that we may feel lost, confused, or even different. Getting in touch with yourself, your true essence, is many times what is truly calling us. A sacred, safe space can support a person's journey towards happiness, health, and feeling a sense of purpose in the world. My own journey allows me to do this for others. I am inspired by the human spirit & honored to work with people who come for my services! "Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking." - Marcus Aurelius.

My ideal client is motivated to improve their lives in whatever way is important to that person and is committed to treatment and open minded about trying new ways to manage difficulties. That could mean talking about past traumas to identifying steps towards wellness in the present.

My goal in counseling is to come alongside my client to help them reach their own personal goals while overcoming the struggles, obstacles and burdens that are standing in their way. The focus is to lead a more peaceful and contented life. I work with all ages, however I have a lot of experience working with children, adolescents and families through a vast variety of challenges. I am passionate about healthy family dynamics and helping parents navigate their children's, sometimes complex, needs. I take a caring approach and view the client/ counselor relationship as a team.

Compassion Focused Therapists

How does compassion-focused therapy work?

Compassion-Focused Therapy is based on the idea that humans have at least three emotion regulation systems, including one that responds to threats and another that allows us to self-soothe. Those who experienced serious childhood adversity, the theory goes, have a hyperactive threat system and an underperforming self-soothing system, leaving them vulnerable to shame and a hypercritical mindset. CFT focuses on bringing these systems back into balance, helping the client be kinder to themselves and better able to accept kindness from others.

Is compassion-focused therapy a type of CBT?

Compassion-focused therapy is closely related to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and employs many of its techniques. In addition to CBT, CFT also draws from the fields of biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Buddhism. It also has similarities to some types of trauma-focused therapies.

Is compassion-focused therapy evidence based?

Evidence suggests that CFT can be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be beneficial for individuals who may not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but who still struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of shame.

What are the limitations of compassion-focused therapy?

Compassion-focused therapy is still a relatively new therapy, and research on its efficacy is still in its early stages; while some studies have found positive results, many have suffered from quality issues or small sample sizes. And while most CFT clients find it difficult to practice self-compassion at first, some—especially those who actively fear compassion or are deeply uncomfortable being cared for—may not be fully open to the tenets of CFT, potentially limiting the therapy’s long-term effectiveness.
