After several years teaching high school English, Alyssa began her career as a therapist in private practice in 2000. She treats clients ranging from age 6 to 96 working to solve issues pertaining to ADHD, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, Grief/Loss, Marriage and Relationship struggles, and OCD. In addition to maintaining her private practice, in 2010 Alyssa became the school counselor at The Independent School, working with students Pre-K-12th grade. In 2018 she was promoted to Head of Lower School. Being an educational leader, Alyssa has a special heart for students and families struggling with school/education related issues.

Chris is a Licensed Masters Social Worker who got his education at Kansas State University in 2019. Since then, he has work experience in working with child welfare, community mental health, and as a school social worker. His passion is being able to truly connect with his clients in a safe environment to allow them to feel trust in the therapeutic relationship. He is a very laid back empathetic listener and enjoys using humor when possible to connect with his clients and to make them more comfortable. Chris has excelled in areas of focus like anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, trauma, foster care, ADHD and school issues.

I enjoy working with adolescents and adults who just need a little "tune up", need long term assistance, or something in between. Working with children adolescents and young adults, I strive to empower my clients to create lasting bonds and create solutions to improve everyday living in their homes and school environments. I have worked extensively in the foster care system with biological and foster parents, addressing behavioral issues, family of origin issues and family bonding/attachment. I enjoy both in school and in office sessions and working with the entire family to meet the individual needs.

Talking (and listening!) are good ways to solve problems. People have been doing this for centuries, but few do it well. That's where I come in. My listening skills are fine-tuned, and I can help you to find where your blind spots are, if any, as well as help you brainstorm solutions to the struggles you are facing. I come from a Christian perspective, but I do not preach at people. I also come from a perspective that says there is always hope. That hope may not be visible yet, but it is there.

Any symptoms or problem you're experiencing does not define who you are as an individual. Life is challenging on our best days. Sometimes these challenging days turn into weeks, maybe months, if not longer. The Monarch Center specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Our program provides both individual and group therapy for people seeking help to regulate emotions. All of our therapists are intensively trained in DBT and have many years of experience working together as a team. We believe every person can live a life worth living, and that freedom from suffering is possible.

The journey toward and through parenthood does not always go as planned. Some people struggle with infertility and face heartbreaking disappointment each month that goes by with yet another negative pregnancy test. Others experience pregnancy or infant loss and grapple with unbearable grief. For others, a new baby brings with it a sense of overwhelming anxiety or depression.
