Be Our Fortunes As They May, Touched With Loss Or Sorrow; Saddest Eyes that Weep Today, May Be Glad Tomorrow - James Whitcomb Riley's words of pain also offer hope; they were engraved on a plaque in the hallway outside my room as I grew up. Grief, loss, anxiety, depression, work difficulties, relationship issues, & the 'all the things' may be here for the moment but don't have to be here for always. I'm eager to meet with you & consider together the steps to moving toward better, more joyful days. With skills, techniques, & evidence-based/proven theories of care, we have hope for the growth & healing that changes our future.

You are sad, isolated, & anxious but you're too ashamed or embarrassed to tell anyone about it. You feel constant guilt for opportunities missed. You're confused because your life looks good on paper. You force a smile but inside feel despair, worry, and don't know how to cope. You can't find peace because your thoughts are racing. You get angry at situations that don't make any sense. At times, you are stressed out and can't find the energy to get out of bed. You focus on what you did wrong in the past. You have lost confidence in yourself. Your routine feels pointless; things that used to bring you joy are no longer enjoyable.

I am a queer, nonbinary, neurodivergent and leftist therapist. My specialties include navigating neurodivergent, transgender, and queer identities, as well as tackling issues related to autism and ADHD. Existing in a neurotypical, cishetero world, you likely feel pressure to be a certain way or meet certain expectations. As a result, you may be carrying feelings of shame, depression, anxiety, or self-hatred. Celebrating who you are or feeling pride or confidence might feel out of reach. I work with people to explore these sorts of problems and to create room for joy, celebration, and pride.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I am a firm believer that people deserve to live their lives to the fullest, walk in their truth, and become their best self. Will life present challenges? Absolutely! When life becomes difficult and we are presented with unforeseen circumstances that create challenges, certain individuals are destined to join our journey to help foster the healing process. Will you allow me to be that individual?

I have served those with Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Family Issues, etc. My ideal client is motivated to roll up their sleeves and engage in the therapeutic process. They have an open mind and can practice effective coping skills to improve their overall functioning and quality of life. They can challenge themselves to be vulnerable and practice accountability while processing their problematic thinking patterns and behaviors in a safe and non-judgmental environment. They wish to engage in therapy because they realize that they need to make a change and are willing to take a leap of faith to make it happen.

My choice to become a therapist is based on my personal experience with therapy as well as my belief that everyone has the potential to uncover and enjoy their authentic selves. I have spent time understanding the construct of identity as it relates to self-acceptance, self- worth, and self-actualization. These themes are not only core to the self, but also integral parts of our interpersonal relationships - partners, children, friends, and communities. Trauma, belief systems, and life experiences create a default mode of operation. Undoing these is a gentle process of vulnerability and self-trust.

Are you a woman who has ever asked herself "Why am I like this?" Because your're feeling caught in a loop of overthinking, people-pleasing, and striving for unreachable perfection? Exhausted by trying to be everything to everyone and getting caught in the spiral of worries? Burdened by unhealed wounds, strained relationships, or that nagging feeling of being stuck and unfulfilled? Tired of just treating symptoms rather than healing the root causes of your 'stuckness?' Craving a life ignited with purpose, a life where you're thriving, not just surviving, leaving behind the impulse to compare it to everyone else's 'highlight reel'?

Are you struggling with maintaining your sanity as a wife, mother and caretaker? Or are you just someone who needs clarity on what your needs really are? While sometimes it is difficult to understand your own needs, therapy is a way to maintain your self care, learn how to gain better understanding and communicate your needs and feelings, to help you address barriers to healthy relationships and accomplishing personal goals.  As a therapist I have over 10 years of experience in helping adults and adolescents identify their own needs and collaborate to help them recognize how to improve upon those barriers.

We are all wired to find equilibrium – the state of rest and balance with our body, mind, and spirit. But sometimes outside influences like relationships, work, money, illnesses, politics, and world issues keep that from happening. We take a few steps forward, only to get pushed back much further. If you find yourself struggling to cope and hold things together in the midst of stress, loss, and/or a radical change, Life is likely calling for you to grow. Engaging in therapy is like going on a journey with a trusted guide who sees, hears, teaches, and supports you wholeheartedly.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Cincinnati?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
