I support individuals who struggle with relationships, who have difficulty advocating for themselves and who are transitioning through challenging times. We will explore and validate how your attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors helped you survive earlier stressors but currently limit you. We will bring a greater awareness and a deeper understanding of your feelings. Over time, you will be able to release defensive habits that prevent access to your true nature - authenticity, integrity, and passion. I am here to support your journey of healing and growth so you can create the life that you long for.

My therapeutic approach is open, warm, compassionate, and curious. I integrate Psychology and Buddhism and believe a holistic approach that attends to body, mind, and sprit is crucial to healing. Foundational to my practice is the idea that a deep wisdom resides within all of us. I strive to co-create a safe space where individuals can explore the lightest and darkest aspects of self without the self-judgment and criticism so prevalent in our culture. When trauma and pain are witnessed and individuals feel seen and understood, wisdom can prevail so that one can heal, while recognizing and actualizing their potential and chosen path.

I work as a psychotherapist and coach in New York, supporting clients in living out their values, improving their health and functioning, and deepening their sense of meaning, purpose and wellbeing. My work is influenced by mind-body and compassion-focused therapies, positive psychology, attachment theory, dialectical behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. My work is heavily informed by the years I spent as a behavioral scientist and researcher exploring meaning and mindfulness-based approaches to behavior change and optimal functioning.

On the surface you appear to have it all together, but deep down are struggling to feel confident in who you are & overwhelmed by all the balls you’re juggling. Constantly battling to manage the anxiety, depression, or reminders of the past that seem to set you off for no clear reason leaves you exhausted and on edge. Maybe you’ve spent a lifetime as the one to step up to the plate and handle more than your share of problems. Or maybe you learned early on it’s not okay to speak up when you’re struggling. Either way, you now feel disconnected from your own needs and the people you love, and can’t seem to fix it on your own.

I incorporate evidence-based mind-body practices (MBSR, IFS, CBT) and tailor my approach based on each person's unique needs.
We all have times where we hit roadblocks that get in the way of finding balance and peace in our work, our relationships and our health. These experiences may distort the perceptions we have of ourselves; bringing up feelings of fear, frustration, loneliness and burnout. Through exploration and introspection, we can identify your obstacles and develop realistic tools to manage stressful circumstances, allowing you to create the life you want.

My approach to therapy is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and other trauma-informed interventions like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I believe strongly in the resilience of people, and that a healthy therapeutic relationship can promote trust, healing, and personal growth. I believe that successful therapy is predicated on having a strong therapeutic alliance; the connection and collaborative relationship between the client and therapist. Taking a strength-based perspective, I listen deeply and reflectively to sustain a non-judgmental and safe environment. I am passionate about helping clients fully process past experiences and thrive in relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them.

I draw from experience in various therapeutic approaches including Neuro Affective Relational Model therapy (NARM), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Hakomi.
When we don't feel our best, it is a challenge to fully engage with life and unleash our true potential. Life transitions, grief, trauma, depression and other stressors can leave us stuck and feeling like the life we truly want to live is out of reach. It is my firm belief each of us has the power inside to heal and transcend these types of limitations. Through compassionate, supported inquiry, we can dismantle the blocks that keep us from our most deeply held desires. I am here to assist in that process. Through a holistic approach that honors the mind, body and spirit, I am dedicated to helping you move forward.

My additional areas of expertise include trauma, EMDR, IFS ("parts work") anxiety, depression, communication skills and issues specific to the LGBTQ community.
Grief is the price we pay for loving deeply and having to let go. It can result from the death of a loved one, end of a relationship, or the loss of a job, home or former identity. Grief can feel simultaneously empty, yet heavy. It can cause confusion of how to go on living a "normal" life. It can also feel like no one else could possibly understand. After a decade of working alongside individuals who were dying, providing counseling to care givers and loved ones, I understand the significant pain and trauma of grieving. I also know how to help in healing and restoring hope.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
