Life is hard. Anxiety, depression, adjusting to new experiences, and PTSD are just a few of the things that have a way of knocking us down. It sometimes takes courage to reach out for help. However, if you have come to a point where your dissatisfaction with life is greater than your discomfort of asking for help, you may be ready to explore therapy. I strive to make this as easy as possible for my clients. I offer a judgement free zone as an empathetic listener who may have some insight that will help you find your answers. This is your life. I am only here in the background, holding a lantern to help you light your path.

Welcome! Some initial questions...Are you successful in all the ways the world values but struggling to find love and peace internally? Do you sacrifice yourself and neglect your own needs? Do you have a quiet knowing that some vital part of you is drying up? My clients are sensitive, feeling, intuitive adults interested in doing their ‘inner work.' Distress wears many faces (eg., anxiety, grief, trauma, anger, depression, relationship problems) and tries to relieve itself in many ways (eg., substance use, work, caretaking others). I guide my clients on the worthy quest of coming back to themselves.

Life is full of ups and downs, uncertainties, changes and setbacks. Often times it becomes overbearing to carry the weight of it all. Nothing says that you have to face these issues alone. I primarily work with adults who are suffering from Depression, Anxiety and Grief. However, anyone who is able and willing to be an active participant in their mental health journey is welcome in this space with me. I work tiresomely to ensure each client is afforded a safe place to explore their issues and achieve their goals.

Let's face it, life events shape our present, and contribute to a loss of connection to ourselves, family, others, and the world. A recovered sense-of-self is essential for empowerment to face these issues. And, because this disconnect initially occurs in earliest childhood, traditional "talk" therapy alone is an insufficient approach. I am a therapist shaped by a myriad of life roles and events. I intentionally sought a PhD in clinical psychology with a specialization in "somatic psychology" to underscore my own therapeutic experience. Somatic psychology studies how the "body" informs and provides clues to our emotional responses linked to childhood.

I have been extensively trained in approaches for PTSD, depression, anxiety, family conflicts, and bereavement.
I believe that individuals and families who seek mental health therapy desire to make changes but often are unsure where to start. Clients bring past trauma, setbacks, feelings of hopelessness, and despair into the therapeutic setting. Navigating through life transitions can often be daunting and confusing as well. Someone who can listen and partner with clients on their journey is paramount to their recovery. Goals include a life free of the constant bombardment of destructive thoughts that interfere with the quality of relationships and a sense of purpose.

For many years my clients have primarily been individuals, groups, and families coming out of abusive and sometimes violent relationships and addiction. Although that was the original primary focus, most of them also struggled with other accompanying factors like depression, anxiety and other serious mental health diagnoses. My clinical focus has recently shifted to more of a community-based population. I have found this work incredibly rewarding. I enjoy working with additional needs such as grief, prenatal, postpartum depression, and abandonment trauma to name a few.

Whether it is for better or for worse, change is inevitable and has the potential to influence both joy or grief.
We are all worthy of love, happiness and respect, as long as these do not come at the expense of others. Happiness, joy, peace, fulfillment, love and meaning are likely things we must discover, create and nurture throughout our lives. Our current selves are the culmination of our past however this is not all we are. I believe we all have basic human needs that are in constant flux and we are responsible for fulfilling those needs through the choices we make and relationships we maintain. Finding balance within life is fostered through challenging our perspectives and learning from our mistakes/failures, not shaming or fearing them.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
